What an interesting take on prehispanic art!! I've seen many pieces before, but always in a historical context. So lovely to just appreciate it as beautiful art

Both the content and the design of the presentation were highly satisfying. There are explanation cards keyed to the display cases in both Spanish and English.

This lovely building just a few blocks from the Zocalo in Central Oaxaca houses the gift of the Tamayo collection of pre-Hispanic sculpture in dazzling display. OMG that's all I kept mumbling as I walked through the galleries. A must see.

To look at these pre Colombian pottery and stone artifacts as art. The museum is very well organized and demonstrates the increasing sophistication and craftsmanship of the makers. Labels are mostly in Spanish.

This is a manageable collection of native Mexican artifacts from a private collection. The pieces are showcased in exhibition rooms with dramatic color and lighting to emphasize their artistry rather than provide encyclopedic historical details.

This is my favorite museum in Oaxaca. If you enjoy prehispanic scupture and ceramics, this is the place to go. Also my 3rd time there.

This is a gem of a museum.Tamayo Put together artifacts point of artistic appreciation and has done an outstanding job. It's wonderful to see these items lit properly and displayed properly which is very rare in many of these small museums. Not to miss.

Get ready to see a great collection of pre-Columbian artifacts collected by the artist Tamayo (and organized by him-that's important because they are objects to be appreciated as an artist would). Look for the one clay piece that looks like Bill Clinton. I am still...More

Well lit displays of Tamayo's collections of artifacts from the region, grouped by theme. Building is elegant as well. A good overview of pre-Hispanic ceramics, collected partially to protect them from being looted or exported.
