En Via is a non-profit microfinance organization working to fight poverty around Oaxaca, and to educate travelers about the power of microfinance by connecting them with local women either through visits to their towns, or through our volunteer program teaching free English classes to women and children. On the visits, travelers meet women who are applying for micro-loans to start or expand their small businesses, from making tortillas to weaving beautiful rugs, to selling flowers in the local market. Participants hear about the women's lives and projects, and what they plan to do with their loans. At the end of the day, 100% of the fee is then used to give interest-free micro-loans to the women we visited.

If you are looking for a really great cultural experience as a part of your visit to Oaxaca, then you absolutely have to take this tour. It was one of the most interesting and educational things we did. I guess what we enjoyed most was meeting the recipients of En Via's micro finance lending program. And what you'll find is... More

Our tour to Teotitlan and Abasolo was a great experience from beginning to end. We visited with weavers, a baker, a restaurant owner (who served us a delicious lunch!) a hair salon operator and a livestock producer - all of whom are making life better for their families and communities through the micro loans they receive from En Via. Our... More

This was one of the best things we did in our week in Oaxaca: it was outside the usual tourist zone and gave us an intimate look at the real lives of women empowered by microfinance. We were there on Day of the Dead and they welcomed us into their homes, shared stories of their families and their work, and... More

The En Via Foundation offers weekly tours to surrounding villages where tour participants can see this non-profit's micro lending model in practice. We went with about 12 others from Canada, US, Australia and New Zealand on an English-speaking tour toTeotitlán del Valle and another nearby village. En Via tour revenue goes mostly to fund micro loans to women in villages... More

I thoroughly enjoyed visiting the artisans and talking with the volunteer tour leaders. This is a great way to see beyond the tourist sites in Oaxaca, and a chance to buy directly from the artesanas.

I went on this tour a year ago and loved it. This organization is so well run. I have been a fan of micro-credit for women ever since hearing about Muhammad Yunus' Grameen Bank. He won the Nobel Prize in 2006 for it. The women at En Via must participate in business classes before getting their first loan. They work... More

I highly recommend taking the En Via tour while you are in Oaxaca. It includes visits to two or three indigenous towns surrounding Oaxaca, something fairly difficult to do on your own. The first stop is lunch provided by one of En Via's clients who increased her restaurant business two fold because of the help from En Via. Lunch included... More

En Via is an NGO enabling women entrepreneurs from economically struggling environments of Oaxaca to achieve success. Their tours are excellent in providing a more comprehensive view of life in Oaxaca, its humanity, and its hope.

There are incredible people living in Oaxaca, making a difference in their communities and creating new paths for economic development. Spending a day meeting a few of them with En Via was the highlight of our trip. We encourage everyone with a free day to go on a tour, see small villages and hear the stories of people living there... More

I'm not prone to superlatives, but this tour was amazing! You'll meet and engage with remarkable women in villages that would otherwise be challenging for a visitor to access. And the bulk of your fees actually help those people through En Via's truly worthwhile programs. Plus, it includes a tasty lunch! How can you go wrong? We met women who... More
