Nice place

Depends on the exhibit, the building and architecture is very nice. Tamayo is amazing but other exhibits can be avoided.

Small collection, but this is where you'll find the work of Rufino Tamayo--his eponymous museum displays pre-Columbian artifacts

Another must for all art lovers. Rufino Tamayo, was not just a painter, but also a very talented lithographer/printer. And then the added bonus is the special exhibit of Cuban/American painter Carlos Luna whose has some figures that have been likened to Picasso but more unique and intriguing The building itself is also a work of art. A must for... More

In January, there was a mix of artists' work on display: some good; some not so good. However, I don´t remember paying much, if anything, to see what was available. If you don´t go, you won´t know what you missed.

First I want to say that the building is beautiful, and we really enjoyed it. However the exhibits at the time we were there were terrible, even pornographic. And the ones we felt were pornographic involved young children in suggestive poses. It's too bad, because the artist in that particular exhibit was clearly very good. I was glad we were... More

Exhibits here change regularly, and as other reviewers have noted, your experience will largely depend on whether the temporary exhibit you see is worthwhile or not. There is almost no educational signage; no museum guidebooks or exhibit catalogs; and the gift shop is - frankly - tacky as hell. Still, if you luck out and hit it this place when... More

Since this museo does not have its own collection, its quality is up or down depending on the special exhibition of the season. Nice exhibition space, but little attention to visitor service....it's basically self-serve. Hours can be sporadic too, so call ahead to be sure they're open (or ask your hotel to check with them by phone). Some of their... More

On my second trip to Oaxaca I had more time to visit the lesser known attractions and this was one of the best surprises. For only 20 pesos I got to see a special exhibit of Rodolfo Morales' work and another on the second level of Santiago Carbonella...What talent! It's quiet place to appreciate these beautiful works but just across... More
