A hidden gem tucked away in the jungle outside Tulum that will take you great away
Sac Actun was a total surprise that we really enjoyed, we visited cenote calavera the day before for my 11 year old first experience and he was amazed jumping in and wanted to go to another cenote. After an hour research we cam across this one and it looked spectacular and less touristy. After a short drive, you turn off onto a gravel road and literally drive past many other denotes but kept driving until we got to the end where there were two other families that had just finished. This is a little more expensive than other cenotes but you will be saying that was worth every penny when you come out, $40USD per person on group tours or $400 for private tour. We chose the group tour and it was just the three of us and so lucked out. We went down a steep stairway, down into the cenote where there is a little island where the platform is. From pictures it looks like you would just swim around here but we went off into the cave where it was cave after cave. With 20ft deep waters and lots of stalactites we navigated with our guide who had a flashlight highlighting the beautiful scenery. The tour was about an hour, hour and a half and were left breathtaken. Truly a hidden gem of a place!

    Immersion into holy Mayan waters
Went there based on the hotel recommendation to see this best known cenotes, typical to the Cancun area. After some bumpy road arrived at the place, and realized not being fully informed, when the tour guide introduced need for picking a snorkel with face mask and a life vest, and asked to go and check if I’d prefer a wet suit. The tour is swimming in those amazing earth-old water labyrinths, hearing their Mayan history and later discovery of various extinct animal skeletons in those waters. Fantastic experience and excellent tour guide. But 45+ min swim/snorkeling in 60+ oF water starts to hit the bones, so pay extra for the wet suit! And take a set of dry clothes and a towel before leaving your hotel.

The cenote is wonderful! The experience we’ve got is unbelievable, especially the guide we had, his name is Carlos and he’s the most professional, kindest and high-qualified guide ever! Totally recommend this cenote to visit and to meet Carlos there;)

    Highly recommend! Excellent experience!
This tour highly exceed our expectations! We drove up late in the afternoon as a group of 4. Met by Carlos who explained the tour and price of 650 pesos. We agreed, waited 20 minutes and then began our tour after nobody else arrived. We were provided with wetsuits and allowed to take our phone on the tour to take some great photos! Carlos stopped at some great spots for us to take photos and took some group photos also. The caves were incredible and Carlos pointed out so many great things. Highly recommend this tour! A+ 10/10.

    Fabulous
We have been to other cenotes in the past but this was by far superior. Alvaro was an excellent host and very knowledgeable as well. Definitely the best cenote we have ever toured - we spent an hour exploring the caves and saw some fabulous sites. I would highly recommend this one.

    Superb experience.
Must do Cenote in the Quintanoo Roo. It is a gem. Carlos our instructor guide was awesome. Clean and safe facility. Family friendly. Cave diving, crystal clear blue water # very deep # Cenote Sac Actún, the second largest underground cave system in the world. Highly decorated with stalagmites and stalactite (tens of thousands of year old formations), it was incredible!

    Incredible cenote and excellent tour!
We had such a great time at Sac Actun! Our guide was Isa and he is so knowledgeable and passionate about his work- he made our experience in this incredible space even better. The pictures of this place don’t do justice to its magnificence- you have to go and see it. Worth every penny!

    Spectacular Cenote
What a spectacular, awe inspiring experience! Our guide, Bany, was absolutely amazing!!! He is so knowledgeable and goes out of his way to make sure you have the best experience at Sac Actun. My best advice, avoid going in a large group or indulge in a private tour. It is well worth it!

Our favorite experience of all while we were in Mexico was at Sac Actun Cenote
It's a pleasure to be able to write a review for Isa at Sac Actun cenote. We asked our driver which cenote he would recommend and after considering our question he told us he would take us to his favorite. I have to say, when we turned left off of the Main Street and proceeded to drive deep into the jungle on a bumpy road, I was a bit concerned. But at the end of the road you get to a stand where they have wet suits/snorkls/masks and for around $400 US dollars (don't quote me exactly as there were a lot oef us trying to make the peso/US dollar exchange math in our head but this is about what I recall) our group of 6 was escorted into the cenote by our guide Isa who was FABULOUS! He explained that he "did not speak great English" but let me tell you, he spoke perfectly good English and was able to describe for us each and every wonderful aspect of the cenote, from the pre historic skeletal remains discovered there, to the stalagmites and stalactites and how they formed, the plants and fish we saw, the bats inside the cave etc. He was very aware of our safety, and while he allowed us toe explore, he helps us safe and was just a delight to be with. Th experience was like none other and one that I will forever rank as my favorite things we did all week while in Tulum. The experience was spiritual for me and my family. The natural beauty is just breathtaking. I would highly recommend you do this while you are in the Tulum area and if you do, tell Isa we said hi and THANK YOU for a wonderful experience.

We had a great experience. The drive to the cenote was a long dirt road. Once we got there the staff was excellent. Our gear was clean and the guide was very knowledgeable. It was a beautiful experience!

My wife and I have been to many cenotes in our last trip but Sac Actun surpassed them all. It’s a bit of a drive down a bumpy road, but as you get closer to their entrance, they paid to smooth out the road so it wasn’t bad.

It was a little bit of a drive but definitely worth it!! It is magical and if you get the private tour they take you to darker areas. But it is really cool. You cant go to mexico and miss this. Also our skin came out really nice and glowy, so the pictures looked really good. Ask for Danny, he makes the tour extra fun!

My recent visit to a cenote in Tulum, Mexico was absolutely breathtaking. The crystal-clear water, surrounded the beautiful cave, offered a serene escape from the heat exploring underwater caves was truly unforgettable. It's a must-visit spot for anyone in the area!

Picked this spot based previous reviews, and we were not disappointed. We knew going in we were all swimmers and not claustrophobic— skip this one if this applies to you.
Had an awesome time in the cave. Carlos was a great guide and helped make the experience very memorable.
Definitely take time at the end to hang out in the open air portion!

Our guide Alvaro was the best!! This was totally worth a day trip from playa del Carmen. (About an hour drive). It’s not crowded at all, and indescribably beautiful. It’s a mandatory guided 1 hr snorkeling tour, and they provide everything (wetsuits, life vests and snorkel gear). You don’t need a reservation, you just drive up to the end of the road and arrange everything there. No tour buses here!

Cenote incredible! The most beautiful of Riviera Maya, with a few tourists, more wild, and much much more incredible, bigger and beautiful than for exemple Dos Ojos. Our guide Carlos was incredible. Un unforgettable experience! We go pass Dos Ojon and continue, a bit hidden.

I highly recommend Sac Actun. To get there, you will go down a long bumpy dirt road for 15-20 minutes. Following the same signs to Dos Ojos. They will have the road barricaded to funnel people to the Dos Ojos ticket booths. Just drive up to the gate and tell them you are going to Sac Actun and they will lift the gate, no problem.

We arrived around 2 p.m. and left at 445p. So it's 2-3 hour long visit. They wait 20 minutes to gather guests. No reservations are needed. $650 peso gives you a wet suit, life vest, and googles. No snorkel. The googles were on our heads except when we wanted to look at the stalagmites under water. They have waterproof phone pouches for sale if you need one. I had one, so I don't know the cost. Nice Banos, no lockers. Put everything in your car, and they keep the car keys in a box that has a security camera on it. It felt very safe

The water is refreshing. Wet suits are needed, and it's cold. I was a bit chilly by the time we got out. I would say we were in the water an hour. It is beautiful. It is not for the closterphobic. The guide Carlos was very informative. He has a strong flashlight to show the way.. He will use your camera to take pictures if you have one. He did a great job.

We loved everything about this trip. Sac Actun is the world's 3rd longest river system. Fresh water!

Amazing experience! Definitely not a tourist trap. It was worth every penny! The cenote is wonderful and you can only have guided tours. They will give you all the equipments (including neoprene suits). You can also pay with credit card and they have Wi Fi. Our guide, Carlos, was great and extremely helpful! The Cenote was empty and we had it all for us.
You can also scuba diving there, which must be an once-in-a-lifetime experience and I wish I could go once!
