This is a very attractive looking old church but regrettably was not open to look around. An additional attraction in a roman granary at the back of the church

Unable to visit the church on our last visit due to roofing etc renovations but pleased to say that on this occasion got the opportunity to. Lovely church set in beautiful grounds. A must visit when to come to Ribchester Roman village.

Interesting church

Wandered around here having eaten in the village. The church is very old and quirky, found it interesting to look round. My grandson was fascinated with the apples placed around the church.
Worth a visit if you are passing.

After visiting the beautiful Roman village of Ribchester it was a pleasure to sit and take in the peace and history of this beautiful place. Steeped in history? Well worth a visit.

Grade 1 Listed Building.
Apr 2018 • Couples
Dating from the 13th century this sandstone built church is next to the Roman Museum. Originally it was much smaller but has had extensions added over the centuries and is now a Grade 1 listed building.

We explored the cemetery and saw the sundial which is Grade 2 listed by National Heritage. The oldest grave is 1696.

Remains of Roman Granaries can be seen on a sectioned off piece of land by the church. I’m not sure if it’s on church land or not!

The church grounds are well maintained and in a peaceful yet attractive location.

Well worth a visit

What a beautiful church and definitely worth visiting no matter what your faith. We had the pleasure of meeting the Reverend who advised us to also go and visit St Saviour's church at Stydd, as we were so near, which we did.

Lovely church in a beautiful location.
Aug 2017 • Couples
St Wilfrid's is a lovely church in a beautiful riverside location in the very attractive and interesting village of Ribchester. The church grounds are immaculate and well worth a stroll around. I was unable to gain access to interior of the church as it is undergoing some major renovations, but a note on the door said they hope to have them completed by mid-September, so I'll just have to try again.

It is worth noting that the main road through the village doesn't give any idea of how historic and lovely Ribchester is, and if you don't make an effort to go into the village centre it would be easy to miss it - which would be a real pity.

Closed to tourists
Aug 2017 • Friends
August 2017 and the church is at present closed to tourists. The roof is receiving urgent repairs and is covered in plastic and scaffolding. The chancel is opened for worship on Sundays. I imagine the cost to be fantastic so if you can afford a little contribution send it to the village Rectorry at Ribchester.
