Spectacular scenery of the Great Wall and some great photos to be had at sunrise or sunset. There were some crumbly steps/half steps so this is challenging and not for really young children or elderly.

We took a taxi to Jinshanling Great Wall, had the driver wait for us while we hiked around, and then took us back to our hotel in Beijing. It was a very pricey, but avoided the logistics around taking the bus on a busy holiday weekend. We went on Sunday April 30, during the May Day holiday weekend, and though... More

From Beijing, it's a two-hour car ride to get to the Great Wall at Jinshanling. It is absolutely fabulous and - being a little off the beaten track - it wasn't anywhere near as crowded as we thought. This needs more than five stars! It is breathtakingly beautiful to see the wall snaking off in each direction, following the contours... More

What an experience. Truly one of the best hikes we have done. A few challenging parts because of the wind on the day we visited. Entered through the West Gate after a 1 1/2 hour walk around the military base. Plenty of snacks and drinks available once you enter this section of The Wall. Easily found a taxi for 90... More

This great wall is far from the other great wall if you come from Beijing but this is really worth coming here. Some parts having been renovated so you will see the real and ancient blocks. I wouldnt recommend for those who have problem with legs or elderly coz some part is really difficult to walk since it is very... More

We got the tip from another traveler to go a little further out to see the wall from this location. She was right! The landscape is breathtaking and it was not crowded at all. Many times we were the only hikers. Bring water and either bring or buy a hat. You can hike for a good while and take the... More

We got up early to avoid traffic and went to a more remote part of the wall: Jinshanling. I have to say that it was kind of a disappointment because of the stories people tell of the Great Wall. I wanted to avoid the tourist traps, but even here the locals try to act as "guides" in exchange for trinkets... More

I went from Gubeikou to Jinshanling via the wild section, impressive, fantastic, wow, I think i do not describe it enough how great it is to walk all the way. At the end, we even see the marathorn at the great wall, which is an additional bonus to us. It has many people here, but at least not over-crowded. You... More

I went on a sunset tour of the Great Wall at Jinshanling, and I was so happy to find the wall nearly deserted. We barely ran into anyone else during the two hours that we hiked along the wall, and we had so many great photo opportunities. Because it's further out from Beijing, it's not as busy as the other... Jinshanling is located at around 150 kilometers from Beijing and is known as less crowded compared with other sections. On the day we went there it was very crowded at the beginning because of a local feast and after it was OK. The views are really impressive and it is definitely a place to visit.
