A long drive of about 2 hours from Beijing without traffic jams as we went on a Sunday. A long walk from the car park to the wall, mostly uphill. Once on the wall, views were incredibly breathtaking. Since Simatai section is closed, we walked from Houchuankou Pass past Shalinkou Pass to Zhuanduokou Pass. We then backtracked to the fork... More

Wow! What an experience!! We booked a tour for this area via our hostel. We hiked 7km (4 miles). It was very difficult because it's steep and this area has not been reconstructed. But it's a great hike with great views!!! Highly recommend this part of your adventurous and love a good workout!

This is the preferred great wall for those travelers who seek adventure, wants to see the original and preserved great wall, and would like to avoid the crowd. You can visit this side of the wall by signing up for a trip at Beijing Downtown Backpackers in Nanlouguxiang, Dongcheng District. Tips: check the weather before going there, bring food and... More

The drive is a little over two hours but it is worth it. We spent almost 3 hours on the Great Wall we were alone most of the time. Robert our guide was knowledgeable. The snow flurries added a surprise to this great visit. Nice lunch at the bottom of the hill.

I have been to the Mutianyu part of the Great wall earlier so I wanted to try a different place. Since the Simatai-part is closed I opted to do the Jinshanling part. Hired John driver (see my other review) and arrived early at Jinshanling. Almost no people there compared to Mutianyu. The walk was in august so it was really... More

The Jinshanling portion of the Great Wall was absolutely incredible. The ups and downs of the wall provide unbelievable scenery. It's very challenging, compared to the Mutianyu section, but there are no crowds and you have the freedom to hike without loads of people and vendors all over. They have a few people selling water and goods in a few... More

China is full of interesting places to see and things to experience. Maybe the name "Great Wall" makes you feel boring - like, a place full of tourists that go in rows to see something they expected to see. Well... Jinshanling Great Wall could surprise you. There are very few tourists, very few sellers - it's just you and... well...... More

Took a bus from the station in Beijing arrived and a lots of drivers were waiting there. After negotiation one of them took us... More

If you wish to experience the Great Wall at its best then Jinshanling is your best option. It has areas of reconstructed wall but also original parts. The views sweep into the distance truly magnificent. It made our trip to China worthwhile on its own.
