El Charco del Ingenio is a botanical garden and nature preserve just a few minutes from the historical city of San Miguel de Allende. The name comes from a spring-fed pool nestled in an impressive canyon. With great biodiversity, many different species of native plants and animals are in the canyon, the wetlands and the dry scrubland. El Charco hosts an extensive botanical collection made up of cacti and other succulent Mexican plants, many of which are rare, threatened or in danger of extinction. This is a place that was sanctified as a Peace Zone by the Dalai Lama, where you can enjoy the Conservatory of Mexican Plants, scenic overlooks, historic sites, trails, Interactive Garden for Children, camping zone, cafeteria & gift shop, as well as different activities like guided tours, sweat-lodge, workshops, concerts, full moon ceremonies and more.

There is an area full of succulents and cacti, all labelled which is interesting. However just walking around and seeing thesis of some the cacti was worth the entry and more!Definitely worth the hike down to the reservoir shore and back up.

A taxi ride from the city in the outskirts lies this beautiful botanical area filled with indigenous plants and cacti. The hiking paths are dotted with varieties that I had not seen before. It was a great surprise to also see the many sculpture installations that line the hiking paths. Be sure to walk all the way to the fresh... More

I visited this beautiful park and its definitely a most see location. The mexican landscape and the exotic flora are breathtaking. If you are into adventure and are willing to spend a couple of hours walking and hiking, I sincerely recommend visiting this great place.

El Charco is a lovely botanical garden and nature preserve high on a hill overlooking a variety of scenic views - a distant canyon, a river and bridge, hills in the distance and, over it all, a blue sky with fluffy clouds. I've never seen so many types of cacti, agave plants and bromeliads, scattered beside trails and in their... More

A beautiful natural landscape full of many varieties of plants, especially cacti. Quiet, lovely place to visit. take a taxi there and walk back into town if you´re able, it´s magical. The garden also has a cafe and gift shop.

An easy and safe walk from the town. The botanical gardens are a nice respite from the noise and pollution of the Mexican everyday. There's up to 5km of paths up and down criss crossing the area with many interesting plants and some birdlife. The more adventurous can climb down to the namesake gorge. Pack a pic nic!
