When we asked about El Charco, we were told by someone in our complex that it was just a cactus farm. But,one day we were looking for something to do, so we climbed the hill to El Charco. So glad we did! Not only is...More
This is a lovely cacti garden/preserve in the outskirts of San Miguel (inexpensive taxi or Uber ride). The main purpose of the garden is to protect and preserve species that are close to extinction because of development. The staff have carefully created beautiful displays (mini...More
We read the website and decided to meet the shuttle bus and head to El Charco. Well, the shuttle never arrived so we d cider to walk the mile and a quarter to the park. Yes, it’s mostly uphill and it’s quite the trek. But,...More
I’ve been to the garden several times over the last decade. It seems that they keep adding more, and the plants near the facilities are all growing in nicely.
Lots of informative signage. We went with 3 teen boys who needed to burn off energy...More

This is close to a must do in San Miguel I would say. I am not a botanist nor a particular fan of botanical gardens from a technical point of view, but I do love to wander round peaceful places such as this.

Hi. I hope you had a great trip. it is absolutely possible to walk there. My husband and I walked to the Tuesday market, and then walked to El Charco, before walking back into town. We walked past El Mirador to get the the market, and then took the left turn right before the market to get to El Charco. If you go directly to El Charco, one way you can do it is walk up the Cuesta de San Jose, which is one block over from la presa. There are some new houses being built, and there is an entrance to El Charco on the left. You can also keep walking straight up that road to the main entrance. It is a nice walk, and up hill, for sure, but not really that far. I hope you enjoyed it!
