The Museo Historico de San Miguel de Allende was our first stop during our recent visit to San Miguel and we found that our understanding and appreciation of the city and the region was enhanced by the information and the exhibits at the museum. The information is presented in a historical sequence from the foundation of the first mission and... More

Home of Ignacio Allende, leader of Mexico's war of independence (albeit briefly). Visit the ground level rooms counterclockwise to get a chronological summary of Mexico's history (there were no signs to point this out; we went clockwise and were confused for a while....). Upstairs are the living quarters of the Allende family with representative (not his actual) furnishings. I would... More

Although it is poor in exhibition it is a good place to go because we can have information about the birth of the city and who was Allende and his importance to Mexican people.

This was an unexpected stop for us and we are glad we did. If you are lucky you can catch a tour but it is easy to do on your own. It is in need of repair but talking to some of the instructors it is a fun place if you have the time. The have a nice ceramic areaa... More

There is a small charge to see this museum, but worth it. There are English translations on most exhibits. Two floors, accessible by stairs. No elevator. As is the usual w/most museums, this is a little dry. History buffs should really enjoy it, however.

A somewhat small, but decent museum that highlights Allende and his time period. If your interested in history, it's worth a visit, but if history is not your thing, you could probably skip this and not miss anything.

This museum is located in what used to be Ignacio Allende's house. It recreates the rooms as they were when Allende and his family lived there. All the furniture is original. I think this is a fun museum and kids get to learn by visiting the rooms.

I liked that the interpretive signs are in Spanish and English. The history of the town and events that led to the independence of Mexico are explained throughout each room.

The history of San Miguel de Allende is fascinating, particularly the roles of Ignacio Allende and Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla. In addition to the history of the resistance against the Spanish crown, the museum provides examples of the interior of an affluent family's home. It was interesting to learn that everyone had their own bedroom, including the mother and father.... More
