Highly recommend this tour with Professor Albert Coffee. As an archaeologist who participated in the excavation of this site, he is able to provide in depth information regarding ancient Meso-American culture, indigenous plants and animals in an easy to understand and humorous fashion. You must wear comfortable shoes and be able to walk at a moderate pace for approximately 2... More

It was discovered recently and access to it is strictly controlled. Only 40 people at a time can visit the site and they must have tour guides. Climbing the stairs is a challenge, but worth it for the view

This is a decent excursion from SMdA - not too far - maybe a 25 minute drive. Much fuss is made about not taking backpacks or food or drink and such onto the site. Apparently the landowners are into crystals and energy fields and such and they're not happy about archaeologists and tourists on what was their property. The site... More

On this tour archaeologist Coffin gave an outstanding tour of the site. From the museum area you must ride the government shuttle to the archaeology area and then walk a very long way on a cobblestone road, then up the ancient path to the active dig site. But the interesting information Coffin provided was well worth the 3 km walk.... More

Great side excursion but must be done with Albert Coffee tours. Shows how civilization hasn't changed much over time and how advanced the Otemi people were and ahead of their time.

These interesting ruins have been open only 6 years or so. Surrounded the private estate of the Krupp family (of arms fame), you must go with authorized guides. Our guide, an American ex-pat from Louisiana not less, had worked on the original dig and was extraordinarily knowledgeable. Well worth the visit.

It is a 1.5 km walk to the pyramids and gardens from the point of drop off. We loved it. We had a wonderful sunny day and walked the 1.5 km enjoying every moment on the way there and back. you could climb the pyramids and walk around and see the various plants. A caution to travellers, the tour is... More

The site was ruled by the Moon the Sun and Venus, and what can I say about this site, which sits on top of a mountain with just beautiful views. You get there by bus, and then the bus drops you off and you have to walk the rest which is pretty cool as you get to see one beautiful... More

You must go to this site as part of a tour, which can be arranged at the tourist office or kiosk in San Miguel de Allende. It is located on what is now private property ourside of town, reached by a long walk from the visitor's center where the bus drops you off. The walkway is smooth, yet somewhat undulating,... More

When visiting San Miguel de Allende a trip to the Canada de la Virgen is a good way to learn about the early history of the region...and see some stunning landscape.
