Alberto our guide was very knowledgeable, although the tour around the site can only last two hours, we learnt so much about the history, how they believed the site was accessed, there is still much work being done here. It is a pretty walk to...More
Thank you so much to Albert Coffee who gave us an archaeological tour of the pyramid. Albert is an extremely culturally sensitive guide with an encyclopaedic knowledge in this area of study.
Albert has a dry humour and was able to convey much information in...More
So, yes, there are larger and more impressive ruins in Mexico, but you'll never have a more soothing, relaxing, enjoyable visit to an archaeological site in Mexico. You'll find no vendors, no hawking of overpriced art, no hoardes disgorging from huge buses. The site is...More
Well organized 15 kilometer trip to walking tour of Mesoamerica site. Lots to learn and speculate about. Coffee worked at the site and is well trained, well spoken and available for your questions. But the site is at 7,000 feet and you need to keep...More
Very interesting to find out about pyramids discovered on a private rancho near San Miguel. Best seen with a guide who will take you there on an authorized shuttle bus, as access is restricted. You'll have to walk about 6000 meters mostly up hill once...More
My wife and I booked this through Coyote Canyon Adventures in San Miguel. Our guide Alberto was incredible. He has worked (as an archeologist) on the site for a number of years and his breadth of knowledge and passion for his job made this the...More
We did the 10.00am tour which I’m guessing is the more basic version, and it’s delivered only in Spanish - more bad me for not knowing any Spanish!
However, you don’t need words to enjoy this place.
The transit to the pyramid itself is breathtaking,...More
This tour and site was super cool for many reasons. The site itself is spiritual because of the culture, the history, and the precise architecture....Alberto, our tour guide, an ethnohistorian, was incredibly knowledgeable about the area and was super friendly and nice. (We booked through...More
We have previously visited the famous ruins in Chichen Itza and Tulum. These are not as large or extensive, but in some ways more impressive because the dig is still in progress and carefully protected from disturbance and commercialization. You have to drive to a...More

Yes I think you can do this on your own but as the above answer suggests there are issues about getting on site once you are at the park. Phoning the park office in advance would be worthwhile. There also seem to be some political issues between the owners of the surrounding land and the park. When we were there last March there was an ongoing park staff issue where there was a possibility they were all about to quit. Check everything out when you get there. Best of luck. It’s worth it.
