This is a lovely little place. The grounds are well kept and very pretty. We fed the ducks and geese with a bag of food that was available to buy, 50p for a bag. That is such a good idea as everyone should know these days it is unacceptable to feed bread to ducks, as some people were actually doing!

The little cafe was doing take away snacks, good choice of cakes and lovely coffee.
No charge to enter the castle ruins but £2 charge to park to help to maintain it.

It was a really pleasant place even the the weather was a little bit wet.

The castle itself is a lovely place, especially for young children to run and explore
We decided to meet up there in the afternoon for a few hrs with my daughter and grandchildren and it was lovely to see them feeding the ducks and running around, then we made our way to the cafe. This was not so good. Service was extremely slow, considering they weren't busy. We all had cake, but wished we hadn't, it was dry and unpleasant, even the children didn't eat it
Won't be revisiting that cafe!!!

Be very careful where you park when visiting the Castle. Hidden cameras have been installed & if you can't work the old & unreliable parking machine, you will get a nasty letter from a parking company demanding £60 going up rapidly to £150. There is no warning when you enter the car park so once yr in, you have to pay or else!
The people running the castle need to sort themselves out PDQ otherwise visitors will go elsewhere. No one likes being scammed!

Lovely castle ruin with a lot of visual history. However, the real gem is the café. My goodness the food was quality. I have eaten award winning burgers at various city restaurants but the one one I ate today beat them all and was outstanding. I also noticed how many other people had ordered the same, loving called the 'Whittington Wobbler' ; what a lovely name for a burger. So what made it special? the taste, the quality of the meat, the generous portions, the variety of ingredients used. The salad was quality, as was the coleslaw and the burger was a delight to eat. the staff were so friendly and kind. This is a special place and long may it remain that way. change nothing. thank you to all the staff.

Whittington Castle is a castle in northern Shropshire, England, owned and managed by the Whittington Castle Preservation Fund. The castle was originally a motte-and-bailey castle, but this was replaced in the 13th century by one with buildings around a courtyard whose exterior wall was the curtain wall of the inner bailey. As a castle of the Welsh Marches, it was built on the border of Wales and England very close to the historic fort of Old Oswestry.

Review for visit in July 2021 (catching up on overdue reviews)>

I visited here for the American Civil War re-enactment. This was okay, but limited numbers of re-enactors on the Union side only slightly marred the event. Don't get me wrong, the display and talks were very good, but the skirmish was a little one sided. Luckily, it wasn't targeted by insane members of the woke hysteria mob complaining about a Confederate flag being flown!

The castle itself is a pleasant enough place, although in a state of ruin. That said it's a nice enough place to stop off for a look around and make use of the tea room. For a small place, I found the tea room to be VERY well stocked, (especially the cakes), and enjoyed a mug of tea and a pastry whilst awaiting the start of the event.

I wouldn't make a special trip to go, unless you're within a couple of miles, but if you're passing - it's worth stopping by for an hour.

PS: Ask about the Swan's bell......!?!

A lovely ruined castle with a cafe within, free to visit however it is £2.00 to park and although the visit might only take 30 minutes, it can be combined with a visit to the pub opposite.
There is a moat and a duck pond very nearby and Whittington Castle is something the village should be proud of.

We visited Whittington castle near Oswestry. It is beautiful, and interesting. The grounds are beautiful and the most is full of wildlife. The food served in the café was exquisite and the staff were really friendly. I would recommend the "Whittington Wobbler" for anyone who loves burgers. Quite possibly the best I've ever tasted. Thoroughly good day out.

It is only a little castle but with a lovely atmosphere. There are ducks about and you can buy a little bag of duck food for 50p to feed them. There is a little gift shop and small display of artifacts. You can walk up into the castle (well what remains of it. ) But there is info explaining the history. There was a large garden in medieval times but it is overgrown now and not maintained. But it is worth visiting when passing. We had coffee in the cafe. Extremely friendly staff. The wraps looked delicious but we had already eaten. The cook had made a sticky toffee pudding which smelt and looked delicious. The parking had a small charge paid in the cafe. But the entrance to the castle is free. We enjoyed our visit.

Scam car park beware!
Went here and parked up to find payment machine not taking card payments due to a known village Internet problem...
Had no phone so unable to ring and pay...
Stayed for 30 mins and just received a £60 fine even though payment machine faulty!!
Phoned castle manager Catherine who said nothing they can do apparently..
Soooo much small print on signage...even on the side of payment machine...
Thanks for a RIP off day
Don't bother going
