Not sure if my favorite part was seeing pods of pilot whales or experiencing the culture of Cape Breton through the stories of brothers Chris and Clint. The sea was rough, the temperatures were cool and the eastern skies were ominous. The combination of Chris and Clint dressed only in T-shirts and wind and waves showering us with salt salt spray and rain in our face gave us a true life experience. They really love their ocean mammals. How can you put a price on that?!
Bring rain coats. I’d do it again.

Our whale trip with another company had been cancelled the day before and we were lucky to find space with Pleasant Bay for the following day. A family run business we were taken out on their zodiac boat putting us in the middle of a pod or two of pilot whales. We enjoyed a great afternoon, very professional.

Pleasant Bay zodiac tours , seems to lack a running zodiac , best to go next door at Capt. Marks where they actually run zodiacs !!!

The crew is great. I had booked teen kids on zodiac and adults on Danny Lynn. Wasn’t told til I called to confirm that zodiac was out of commission. Good thing there was room for all of us on Danny Lynn. Don’t know what would have happened otherwise. Ride was still exhilarating. You may get wet so be prepared and layer on clothes. We saw a pod of 8-10 whales. It was great. Definitely worth it.

Amazing experience last week with this family-run business. They know exactly where to take us to see multiple pods of pilot whales, including a mother and young calf. The crew were able to answer questions and were very informative about the species and their behaviours.

We had a great late afternoon trip with this company ... an exceptional day for pilot whales -- scores of them -- and great guide and captain who kept up a steady stream of information on this part of Cape Breton. We were in so many wales that they actually stayed a bit longer just to let us all enjoy the experience. Definitely recommend this outfit.

We went out on a 2:00 pm cruise in mid - late August, Chris was our Captain and Winston was our Guide. We were lucky as there were only 6 others that joined us so there was lots of room on the boat. The seats aren't built for comfort but they are functional. A bench with backs down the middle facing out to both sides, and seats along the edges without backs. The day we went out the water was pretty calm.
Winston was a character and kept the trip fun, Chris joined into the conversation from time to time. It was a long drive out until we found a group of six or seven Pilot Whales which we watched for about 25 minutes before heading back in. We did see several seals as well. The Pilot Whales had a small calf with them which was kind of neat, Winston guessed it was about 1 month old. At one point Chris positioned the boat in front of the whales shouting the motor off and they swam up and past us, passing very close.
Both Winston and Chris were great, although I wished we had moved on to try to find other whales after about ten minutes. Most of your trip is driving out to the whales, but the scenery is very beautiful.
The cost seems to be the same with all of the three groups that go out of Pleasant Bale being $50. per adult, for the two of us it came to $115. with taxes.

The whole family was friendly and welcoming at Zodiac Tours. We really enjoyed the tour in their boat. We saw more the a dozen whales on the 3 o'clock tour. The captain was keeping us posted and he was placing the boat in different angles as the whales were moving to make sure we would get great pictures and be satisfied with the tour. The interprete was friendly and would explain many things about the whales and other stuff. We were only two couples on board and he answered all of our questions and it was nice talking with him about their life in Pleasant Bay. We were simply amazed by our whole experience!

We spent a rainy couple of hours touring with Pleasant Bay Zodiac Tours and had a wonderful time. The captain and tour guide worked hard to situate us in the midst of a pod of pilot whales and the sighting was amazing. Everyone was friendly and dedicated to providing a great experience.
