Lulworth Castle stands majestically in extensive parkland at the heart of the Lulworth Estate, close to Lulworth Cove. Built in 1608 as a hunting lodge to entertain royalty,it was purchased together with an estate of 20 square miles, by Humphrey Weld in 1641. Today the Estate still remains in the ownership of the Weld Family. All but destroyed by fire in 1929 the Castle exterior has been restored by English Heritage while the interior has been consolidated providing a magnificent open plan space. Within its displays and exhibits, cellars and memorabilia discover the fascinating story of its past.Climb the tower for spectacular panoramic views of the Purbeck countryside and towards the Jurassic Coast - an experience not to be missed. St Mary's Chapel, in the Castle grounds, is historically significant being the first stand-alone Roman Catholic place of worship to be built after the Reformation. Inside soak up the atmosphere and tranquility of this special place. Please note that jousting no longer takes place at Lulworth Castle.

This well maintained castle had been renovated over the years and is not like the ancient castles located in some parts of the country. Originally a very fine country house lived in by the Weld family, it now provides a good place to visit for those interested in the history of southern England and Dorset. Set on a number of... Had a fantastic visit. The guy who explained the bat hunt to my daughter was brilliant - so friendly and welcoming. We had a great time exploring the castle before moving to the grounds. We were really impressed by the range of garden games and had fun in the playground - although a very persistent peacock tried to eat our... More

Attended today to find it was closed for a wedding. Waste of 90 min round trip and waste of an afternoon on holiday. Could have put on website like corfe castle do when they are actually closed! Very annoyed.

An incredibly pretty castle in lovely grounds. It's used as a wedding venue and it's easy to see why. There is a decent amount of information as you explore the various rooms, particularly about the fire that destroyed many of the upper rooms. Great views from the keep

Review of grounds only as we didn't pay to go in the castle. We paid £3 to park which gave us access to the grounds, toilets, picnic area, outdoor play area, tea room and shop. There were some outdoor games too which the children loved. A lovely spot.

The staff is very friendly and explains everything you want to know about the Castle and compounds. The history of the castle is very interesting and it was a beautiful family tree where you can understand what happened from generation to generation until today. It also has an Anglican Church and a Roman Catholic Chapel you can visit. It was... More

The highlight of our Dorset stay was to bring our daughter to the Easter event at Ludlow Castle. With puzzles and games galore spread across the breadth of the Estate, it was a wonderful immersive experience which transcended age. Climb to the top of the Castle for a 360 degree view of the surrounding countryside bordered by the sea. Excellent... More

This is a good attraction for families. The castle interiors can be explored and walks around the castle. There is a tower with a great view of Poole Harbour and Lulworth estate. St Andrews Church is a must for Thomas Hardy fans, my dad found it very informative and interesting. The staff are attentive and knowledgeable. The only downside is... More
