South West Coast Path
South West Coast Path
4.5
About
Starting at Lamorna Cove, this 5.3 mile yomp on the South West Coast Path will blow away cobwebs, with plenty of ups and downs and some low-growing trees to duck under in the Kemyel Crease Nature Reserve. Travel through the remains of more than 100 Victorian market gardens known as 'quillets'. The walk ventures inland through fields and woodland on paths that may be muddy, so wear good footwear.

The South West Coastal path between Mousehole and Lamorna is a sublime stretch, with fantastic sea and coastal views. Depending on the weather, the light can alter the landscape can change from brooding to benign in seconds. It’s a fairly safe, non-technical walk, although there are a couple of places where you’ll need four points of contact, so probably not ideal for very young children, or anyone with significant mobility issues. Takes about 1.5hr, going at a relatively leisurely pace, but you don’t want to go any faster so’s to best appreciate the majesty of the views. Don’t expect decent refreshment or loos at Lamorna Cove: the cafe is dreadful, although there is some seating and it is a nice spot to eat your home-made sarnies

When myself, husband and 2 boys (14 and 11) started the walk on a very hot day, we had no idea what we'd signed up for. It was very enjoyable as we stopped quite a lot due to the heat but there was a lot of scrambling up and down rocks, very close cliff edges and a rolled ankle which made it a challenge! Walked the roads on the way back but am so pleased we did it. Would recommend walking shoes/boots and lots of water.

Definitely not a walk for small children/ the older hiker - but otherwise not too hard-going. Lots of big rocks that need climbing over and couple of steep ascents. Well worth it for the views and varied landscape and the crab sandwich back at Lamorna.

Do not, under any circumstances, park at Lamorna Cove before commencing this walk; it is a den of thieves and you will regret it as soon as you return home and find a ransom demand on your doormat. However, there is parking just up the road at a pub called The Wink. Better still, if you would like to turn the walk into a circular route you can park at Paul, head over the fields to the Wink, meander down the stream to the cove, follow the South west Coast Path to Mousehole (where the views and the catering far surpass anything at Lamorna Cove), then back up the hill to Paul. You'll need a map, as the rights of way are not all perfectly sign-posted, but it's worth the journey.

We have been walking stages of the South West Coast Path for years and this represented another piece in the jigsaw. The path is clearly marked but like so much of the path involves quite a bit or "up and down". Despite it being a bit misty the views were spectacular. It had been raining quite a bit on previous days so the track was very wet in places, certainly not suitable for anything less than walking boots. We weren't sure if there was a cafe at Lamorna. Luckily we took pasties as the cafe was closed. For the return we headed inland above the quarry and crossed the fields, which was a lot flatter but equally wet underfoot. A point of interest is that we only passed one couple on the whole walk

We love visiting Lamorna Cove and always do so by parking at the top of the hill outside Mousehole and walking the 2 miles along the coast path. It is a bit scrambly in parts and can be very muddy, so maybe not for the faint-hearted. You can walk back the same way, or climb the cliff and go back across the fields (also muddy in parts). If you like caost path walking, it doesn't come much better than this.

We walked from the picturesque Mousehole along the South West Coast Path to Lamorna Cove and returned via a more inland marked public path, through farms, which branches off in Lamorna. Not too strenuous but well worth the effort. Food and drink available in Lamorna's cafe. Many venues in Mousehole. Parking available both places. If by motorhome, park in free lay-by areas before you get to Mousehole. Lamorna not accessible by motorhome. Be sure to allow time to explore Mousehole!

Its a cornish thing to go down Lamorna on Good Friday, something I did with my Mum and Dad and some thing I still do with mine. It has changed a fair bit over the years. the path takes a different route now in places. But still a great walk. Its a shame the harbour is in a bad state now. I understand it would cost a hell of a lot of money to put it right.. shame all the same.

I urge you to not be put off by some of the other negative reviews on here. Agree, it's a tiny beach, but it's more about the sea views and scenery than the beach! Had absolutely no hassle with the car parking (the other people that seem to be complaining are the people that tried to avoid paying the very reasonable car parking fee). We went to the café which has a lot of seating facing the ocean so you can enjoy tea/coffee and (delicious) cake with a sea view! Friendly staff too. I think the average person would really struggle to complain about such a lovely place.
