I doubt I can describe how beautiful Sulphur Mountain is. Take the gondola and then walk to the highest point on the boardwalk and marvel in the beauty of the view. If you can't manage the boardwalk, the visitors centre has a lift to it's...More

Beautiful 360° views of Banff and surrounding area. Be sure to pick a clear day or you won't get the really spectacular long distance views. Dress in layers as it can be collected and windy at the top.

The gondola ride seats four and it takes you to the top of Sulfur Mountain where there's a cafe and visitors centre. There's a wooden walkway and several steps to take you along to the weather station. The views all along the walkway are excellent....More

Went on May Long weekend, and it was BUSY. Still worth the hike all the way up for the views up top. I would recommend starting EARLY to beat the crowds this summer. Just a note-you do NOT get a free gondola ride down if...More

The hike took about 2 hours, the path goes in zig zag up the mountain and the total elevation gain is 650 meters. The scenery from the starting point and until you reach the summit only gets better and better. The views at the top...More

We took the gondola to the top last September, 2016. The views to the top are breathtaking. Take your time as you follow the walkway and don't forget to bring a bottle of water with you.

This is a must go place for people visiting Banff, it offers absolutely stunning 360 views of the valley and mountain ranges. Now they have a restaurant up there.

No. But I guess you could sit on one of the benches outside and eat!
Is there a way to purchase a gondola ride down if we choose to hike up? Or, would we have to pay the full, round-trip price? We will be in the park early July 2017.

Absolutely, you can buy one way down no problem. Can't remember the cost and take about 9 minutes with an option of a picture purchase, or essential and no hassle. Enjoy

Is there any other way to get up to the Sulphur Mountain viewing deck while the gondola is down for maintenance? So devastated, this was what we've been looking to for our whole trip after visiting in 2015.

Sure, but this is a high altitude site, and you had better be vigorously fit to do so!
