Every July, millions of people come to Calgary's Stampede Park to take part in one of the world's largest rodeos and other popular activities such as chuckwagon racing and agricultural shows. The event's origins date back to 1912, when American Guy Weadick, a successful trick roper, got support to host an event called "Stampede" to celebrate the "disappearing" Old West. Since then, the event has grown drastically and has evolved into a celebration of the Old West, while reflecting the modern, multicultural aspects of the city.

What an absolutely fabulous place and time to be in Calgary. The city is so full of life and there is just so much to do. Everyone is dressed in the cowboy attire and just having a hoot of a time. There are free breakfasts all over town and free entertainment everywhere.

I have been to the Calgary Stampede on several occasions...with my son, with whole family, and with friends, and had a great time each visit. There are lots of family events, such as amusement park, children's shows, various entertainment options, animal shows and competitions, as well as lots of food choices. With friends, we hit the rodeo and chuckwagon races,... More

One of the best western hospitality and the spirit of the city of Calgary. The whole city gets involved. The Grandstand show with the Young Canadians is a first class show.

Has something for everyone, a great amusement park, lots of interesting displays like sheep shearing contests with people coming from all over the world to compete, dog shows, animals displayed for ribbons. Most of the activities are included in the entrance fee. The rodeo like chuck wagons races and bull riding are extra. Book your hotel early as everything gets... More

I'm from Kentucky and this was my first trip to Canada. We were here just for the stampede. All I can say is wow! You just have to experience this once in your life. Everything about our experience was just amazing. We went to the chuck races, which was really fun and exciting but the grandstand show after was the... More

The Calgary Stampede is more than a rodeo. There are downtown attractions such as free breakfasts, square dancing, Indian parades and more. On the Park there many free entertainment events such as free stage for music shows. There is a art show in the BMO building, Agricultural displays and livestock in another building and of course there is the Indian... More

I'll never understand why this event is so popular. Long lines to do almost anything with over priced food. The lines can be so bad that the nightly news will inform people where to go for the shortest wait times. There are roughly 100,000 people per day on the grounds. Loud music, poor quality. Only in Calgary will people wait... More
