Every July, millions of people come to Calgary's Stampede Park to take part in one of the world's largest rodeos and other popular activities such as chuckwagon racing and agricultural shows. The event's origins date back to 1912, when American Guy Weadick, a successful trick roper, got support to host an event called "Stampede" to celebrate the "disappearing" Old West. Since then, the event has grown drastically and has evolved into a celebration of the Old West, while reflecting the modern, multicultural aspects of the city.

We attended the calgary stampede this year and it was just great!!! The rodeos were fun and the chuck wagon races were quite entertaining. Rodeos are pretty fun with toddlers or kids but the chuck wagon did not seem to fascinate the little one... The...More

The general admission to the Stampede is not that high and it is a good experience if you just want to enjoy the fair. However, the tickets to the shows are very pricy and some of the races are not very interesting for the kids....More

Terribly well organised, friendly, clean and happy. What more can you say when you've had a good time. The Parade was great fun (reserve a seat on one of the bleachers (e.g. Rotary on-line) and take a cushion!) Public transit to the grounds was very...More

Calgary's Stampede seems larger than the Edmonton Exibition, and although we did not even get into the actual cowboy part the grounds were larger by far ,and it rained most of the time so crowds were small, but we had a good time.

We went on family day, so it was completely manic. The grounds were absolutely swarming with people and difficult to navigate around. There were plenty of free 'shows' and the afternoon rodeo performance was great. I wouldn't return but it had to be experienced.
