After years of walking past this place, I finally went inside and it was a bit of a strange experience. Nobody was around, it was quiet and felt somewhat like I was trespassing. Possibly because the museum is a by-product of the archives, as shown by the hours (8:30 to 4:00 Monday to Friday)? In the end I spent 30... More

Fabulous collection of materials and memories! An invaluable resource of info. for genealogists and anyone interested in the history of education in Alberta. Do not overlook this little gem on your next visit to Edmonton. Special mention must be made re the excellent staff…always extremely helpful and willing to assist in any they can.

It is a big brick treasure box of history! Did you know that a teacher from this school became Lieutenant in the Canadian Army Medical Corps in 1916 while serving in the First World War? And that in the provincial election of that year the men serving overseas not only nominated, but elected her to the Legislative assembly? Did you... More

What an awesome hidden gem! I wish I'd known about it sooner. Housed in the MacKay School, the archive offers up history many might have thought lost - original yearbooks dating back to the early 1900's - what a wonderful resource for genaeologists!
