They'll probably kill me for saying this but it's like a free visit to a high-end art gallery. Here the art is aboriginal (primarily coastal) and Inuit. While there are many places flogging all sorts of First Nations stuff (some poorly crafted, some machine-made, some foreign-made!) this is the real thing. It is "art" in that it is not intended... I have been to Vancouver twice since moving to the PNW. Each time I have found something to buy. I'm super picky about accumulating, so the items must be unique, beautiful and worth the investment. The staff is super friendly and they have an obvious corner on local, first nation items. All price points as well.

Located in Gastown, this is a fine art gallery, not a souvenir shop. If you appreciate First Nations artwork you'll find an excellent selection in this gallery, ranging in price from modest to very expensive. They carry work by many artists, in a range of media. Take some time away from the bustle of Gastown to enjoy this little gem.

Lovely airy premises, lots of interesting art and sculptures. Some very expensive, but also a good range of prices. Not an average souvenir shop. Staff helpful and informative. Some real gems here!

Awesome for outdoor shopping in Vancouver. The street has rain roofs so you can still shop when it rains. Lots of great stores.

This is a wonderful cultural vista of Vancouver and some if the history told via artists and sculptors that are exceptional. Prices are not cheap but then what you buy is priceless in many ways.

There are several northwest art galleries in Vancouver and all are offering a great range of items. Among them, Coastal Peoples is definitely one of the best. They have two shops, the main one on Water Street and a smaller one in Gastown. Both are worth visiting, regardless if you're familiar with this kind of art or not. Prices are... More

Over the years, I have purchased many Aboriginal Art Pieces, (Originals and Artist Proofs) including silver bracelets From Coastal Peoples Fine Arts Gallery. The Artists' work they carry is nothing short of amazing. The owners and staff are always very knowledgeable and helpful to me. They hang the art I have purchased in my home. My favourite Aboriginal Artist is Isaac... More

Staying in Gastown

Neighbourhood Profile
Gastown
A visit to Gastown is like turning back the clock and stepping into a bygone era. With the distinction of being Vancouver's oldest neighborhood, the many plaques that stud the cobbled streets of Gastown tell the story of its colorful past, giving Vancouver's history a more lively presence here than anywhere else. Having been originally founded around a popular worker's saloon, it's no wonder that today some of Vancouver's best micro-breweries, creative cocktail joints, and corner bars can be found in this area. Classical charm suffuses its many vintage boutiques and the brick-built structures that an army of creative professionals call home.
