A beautiful, expansive garden in the middle of the suburbs. Easy access, concession , washrooms and restaurant. Pay parking usually available. The Christmas light display is not to be missed but it's beautiful in any season.

We have a secret picnic spot in the garden. It's quiet, shaded, grassy, and large enough for small children to run and play without troubling other patrons. Where else could you enjoy such pastoral rest even with throngs of daily visitors? I could speak of thoughtfully-planted gardens, fascinating plants, and the wonderful seasonal displays (nighttime Christmas lights, for instance), but... More

We arrived at 16:30 on a Tuesday, getting one of the last spots in the parking lot, which was free. Additional parking is also available on the street. The light displays are mostly around the lake. The paths were well maintained even on a bitterly cold night with snow still on the ground. We also stopped into a heated building... More

Spending anywhere from an hour to a full day in this garden is delightful. It's large enough to provide a respite from the city bustle. I especially enjoy it in the less busy times, when it's not unusual to be the only person around, and I'll often sneak a nap on a bench by a pond. But it's interesting to... More

Where you can you see so many Christmas lights glittering on the water or lights dancing to the music of Christmas well you found it . Walk around at your own leisure take photos etc. Families to solo this is a must see to come to for a Christmas activity.

Although it was a little bit further out from the hotel we stayed in, It still was worth the trip! I would have enjoyed it better if the weather was nicer, but I guess this was a typical vancouver weather. I definitely think the garden is beautiful!

You don't have to be a botanist to enjoy an afternoon strolling through VanDusen Gardens. There are enough different species to hold everyone's interest for an afternoon.

This is a beautiful nature walk with water features and beautiful flowers, it is also good around Xmas when they do their festival of lights event - grab a warm cup of hot chocolate and wander through the Christmas wonderland. Would not recommend the restaurant though.

This botanical garden exceeded my expectations. Not only were the grounds extensive and filled with amazing trees and plants but the the setting was extremely tranquil. The Halloween exhibit was incredible!! There were hundreds of craved pumpkins lining the pathways. The craftsmanship demonstrated in these pumpkins was unbelievable!! Everything from Minions to Star War characters were on display. I can... More

Staying in Shaughnessy

Neighbourhood Profile
Residential neighbourhood to the ultra-wealthy, the gorgeous manor houses centred around The Crescent area are a fabled sight to behold. Shaughnessy is Vancouver's most verdant plotted neighbourhood, and its tree-lined streets, walking routes, bike trails, and charming public parks make for an ideal location to spend and afternoon communing with nature. Consequently, it is also the botanical centre of the city, featuring conservatories and an expansive Botanical Garden, taming and sculpting the wild into seasonal viewing areas and enchanting landscapes. Quiet, elegant Shaughnessy excels at providing the Three Gs: Gardens, Golfing, and Galleries.
