We went on the James Bay - a small town within a large city with AIBC (Architectural Institute of BC) in Victoria om July 31. The tour was about 2 hours, The walk was in the area around and south of the Parliament Buildings. The tour hi-lighted many of the various architecture types and features of historical buildings and homes.... More

Did the West End tour with Emily today, and I quite enjoyed it - from the homes and buildings, to the beautiful neighbourhood, to the history accompanying it - so much value for the price we paid for the tour. Will definitely book another AIBC tour in the other neighbourhoods.

This past month (August 2016) I had the pleasure of participating in four different AIBC walks. We chose Chinatown, Gastown, Strathcona, and the Westend. They were all excellent and I appreciated the guide Pauline, who led three of these walks. She made the walk thoroughly enjoyable. As you can tell, I kept going back for more! Next summer I hope... I've lived in Vancouver for 35 years and at last was able to book one of the AIBC walking tours. It exceeded my expectations. Our young guide Emily, an architecture student, was delightful -- enthusiastic about everything she showed us, knowledgable about historical periods, different architectural styles, and the specific history and characteristics of the different buildings we saw. She... More

Even I lived in Vancouver for long time. This two hours walking tour provided a lot of history of the building. Especially in the Marine building had a guest speaker (secuity guard) talked about the wooden elevator and puzzle on the wall tile. Our tour guide is very knowledge and fun to be with. One suggestion please wear comfortable shoes... More

My wife and I took the Downtown and Yaletown tours last weekend. Our guide Emily was very competent and, although we live in Vancouver, the tours opened our eyes to many things we didnt know before! Highly recommended!

Went on the Victoria walking tour and we had a good time. Our tour guide was clear, pleasant, and very knowledgeable about the history of Victoria as well as the architectural history of the building of houses. The only negative point was the meeting point for the start of the tour. We did not immediately find our tour guide amongst... More

Although we've visited Vancouver on several occasions, this was our first tour of Chinatown. Pauline was a terrific guide, laying out the history of Chinatown and the people involved as the area developed. Her wealth of knowledge was impressive. We look forward to additional walking tours during future visits to Vancouver.

Staying in Gastown

Neighbourhood Profile
Gastown
A visit to Gastown is like turning back the clock and stepping into a bygone era. With the distinction of being Vancouver's oldest neighborhood, the many plaques that stud the cobbled streets of Gastown tell the story of its colorful past, giving Vancouver's history a more lively presence here than anywhere else. Having been originally founded around a popular worker's saloon, it's no wonder that today some of Vancouver's best micro-breweries, creative cocktail joints, and corner bars can be found in this area. Classical charm suffuses its many vintage boutiques and the brick-built structures that an army of creative professionals call home.
