This expansive beach offers fantastic picnicking opportunities, swimming, beach volleyball, or simply a panoramic view of Vancouver and the mountains. Spanish Banks tends to be a quieter beach which makes it very family-friendly.

Spanish Banks is beautiful any time of year. You can go up and walk around the University and visit museums. You can go to the Yacht club and grab delicious food.

This is one of my favorite beaches in the Vancouver area, because it doesn't attract as many people as other beaches (kitsilano's a zoo, and english bay is too). It's a great place to go swimming, or hang out for a bbq or picnic (bring your own grill). The bike ride there is also quite pleasant, with great scenery. The... More

This beach is great. Clean and is great for your children. You can walk endlessly for quite some time. Beautiful views on the mountains and looking towards downtown. A must while visiting Vancouver

I ran from Jericho Beach to Wreck Beach and I have to agree with other reviewers that this is the best beach along this route. Less crowded and better access to view the sunset. Maybe Wreck Beach has better views of the sunset but sadly too many people who shouldn't be displaying their birthday suits prevented me from staying to... More

Huge beaches, beautiful views of Vancouver. Can walk out fairly far before it gets deep. Fun for the kids.

We sat in the (rare) sunshine looking at the city shining over the water. We watched the sail surfers. Families were standing on sandbars far out in the water. Lovely.

Great place to stroll along the water and catch the views . On a clear day you can see from Black Tusk to Golden Ears . Tough to beat.

Staying in West Point Grey

Neighbourhood Profile
West Point Grey
West Point Grey is one of the city’s oldest neighbourhoods, especially known for its easygoing and admired beachfronts. Locals crowd the Spanish Banks and Jericho Beach, especially in the summer, where a sprawling view of the English Bay awaits. The central village is an oasis of sovereign shops, many of them in local operation for years. The neighbourhood has a more personal feeling to it, and can be a wonderful and much-needed break from the bustle of big-city life, being a little haven of peace and quiet with an almost village temperament in the heart of Vancouver.
