We camped (tent) at Ralph River campgrounds for 2 nights. The campground was a 2-3 min walk from Buttle lake, with a spectacular view of several mountains. There are several trails and viewpoints along the main roads within the park. We saw an elk calf,...More

Our family visited both 'ends' of Strathcona Provincial Park and loved the end near the lake the best. It took an hour to get there but we stopped Lower Myra Falls which were simply stunning. Better than some other more well known falls in the...More

We camped here in September and found it to be quiet and well laid out, with good privacy for campsites. We stayed in the Ralph River campground, be sure to review the campground map to ensure you are on the water. Our site was too...More

So you NEED to go visit this park. It's GORGEOUS. If you are camping with a group of friends or kids, go to Buttle Lake Campground. If you are camping solo or as a couple and wanting to enjoy the quietest campground imaginable, go stay...More

After visiting Mount Washington, we dropped down to the Park and took the shortish boardwalk trail, about 3-4 km in total. What a stunning , peaceful and absolutely beautiful place. Sadly we didn't have time to come back on another day but we certainly plan...More

We had so much fun day hiking here last year, we came back again this year, only for backpacking. We came in mid-June out of the Paradise Meadows trail head. Trails are really well maintained and well marked closer to the trail head, but get...More

One of our fav BC Parks for both kayaking and backpacking. Their are marine sites, only accessible by boat on Buttle and Campbell Lakes with picnic tables, fire pits and outhouses. Cost is $10/pp/night and well worth it. Sites are tidy. Backpacking opportunities range from...More

Great question! We did not swim there. It was swampy. We went to buttle lake. The landscape around the campground bordering the water is not conducive at all to walking into the water....there's no beach or even rocks... More

Hi, myself, husband and two kids (aged 2 and 4) are considering a day visit to Strathacona/Buttle Lake however wanted to get a sense if the hike to see stunning scenery is doable with such young children and a stroller. If it requires to much treking to see some of the more majestic sites in this park than we were going to skip the area and head to the area surrounding Whistler as we will be in Tofino at the start of our vacation. Thank you,

Honestly, I'd say skip it. There are far more beautiful places all over the island... to see "majestic" you need to hike out of the easy. Hope that helps! Check out the group "take a hike Vancouver island" on Facebook... More

Hello, I would like to know if we can rent a canoe over there. We (family of four) plan to arrive August 13th, 2016 and stay for some days of hiking and canoeing, but don't have a boat. Thanks for any hint! Christian

Hi Christian - you can rent a boat/canoe at Strathcona Park Lodge along highway 28 just before reaching the campgrounds. I just googled it, haven't rented from them.
