This is one of my go-to places to visit on any trip to Victoria. I love this place. I have many Emily Carr prints in my home, and love that this museum does her works, and her contemporaries, justice. And I am a fan of Asian Art, so this gallery fits the bill.

My mother, sister and I arrived just before opening. We were welcomed in by a friendly attendant and enjoyed a brief browse in the gallery's excellent little gift shop. The Jan and Helga Grove exhibit features sculptural work while celebrating the diversity and style unique to the Grove's work with clay. The show is inspiring and reveals both the sophisticated... Whether you are the the artsy type or don't know a thing about art (like me) this art gallery is a perfect places to spend an hour or two. From Emily Carr to Japanese wood construction art, the gallery is great for a date, to take the family or get in an art lesson with a class of all ages.

This slightly out of the way museum is well worth a couple of hours during a visit to Victoria. It includes one of the best Chinese art collections in Canada as well as a good collection of BC's iconic artist, Emily Carr. The Chinese collection includes oracle bones (used for divination 4000 years ago) and some beautiful Tang Dynasty tomb... More

The gallery is quite small and dominated by Asian pieces of antiquity. The Emily Carr exhibit was informative. The exhibit 'Life with Clay' which showcased the life's work of two local potters who were Masters of their craft. The attached mansion at the gallery was a pleasant surprise. We paired this activity with another since we only took about two... More

It's called a gallery but it is more of a contemporary museum. Great diversity of works on display. Good for a great afternoon of culture.

As per previous TA reviewer's, this is all about EMILY CARR, so the price of admission was well-worth it to stand in front of a dozen-plus of her amazing inspiring paintings! That said, the rest of the Art Gallery of Victoria is worth a view, and the building itself is a mansion built of unimaginable detail. The price of admission... More

I enjoyed learning about Emily Carr. I was very happy to see her paintings. I think the explanations and displays were informative. I had wished to visit her home but it was closed for the season. There is an impressive Asian collection here which my family enjoyed. The third exhibit was confusing to me. I cannot imagine that there are... More

For such a small gallery, their collection is amazing! I came to see the new Asian art exhibitions by Barry Till and was totally blown away. The AGGV has an amazing Asian art collection. The teapots and scholars' items were so cool to see after learning about them in my art history class. I will be back soon to see... More

We very much anjoyed our recent visit to the Art Gallery of Victoria. It has a wonderful Asian collection containing many ancient works mainly from the Far East. The last time we saw an Asian collection this size in North America was at the Minneapolis Institute of Art. The serene Shinto courtyard is exquisite - spend some time there just... More
