Shelburne is a super unique little town. If you love history, old buildings, and interesting people.. this town is for you. Make sure you stop by the Museum's "Dory Shop," where they still make boats the same way they did 150 years ago.

The cost of this museum was covered by our Nova Scotia Museum Pass. We were here on a Saturday afternoon, so there was no one working on a dory. We did watch a video, walked around to read information and view the different dories. We did enjoy the museum, but I do think it would be more interesting to actually... More

A quick little museum where you can learn about dory making and the importance of the craft in the fishing history of the area. We were able to meet the master builder and talk to him one on one. The museum is located in a historic building and upstairs is the workshop where they make the dories. Would be great... More

We stopped at the Dory Shop Museum as part of a two day tour of southwest Nova Scotia and learned all about the history of the shop and how a dory - a Shelburne Dory - is made. The staff were wonderful and really made the whole process come alive. My husband was so interested in now wants to build... More

Just a nice way to spend an hour or so, we had a great conversation with the gentleman building the dories. This man is an artist, the craftsmanship was second to none, and he takes great pride in his work, and likes to tell you about the history of dory building.

Make sure you get the 3 museum ticket then visit this one first. Start with the 5 minute film as unless you are already an expert on Dory building it gives you the essential information to ensure you get the most from your visit. The staff were all very knowledgeable, helpful and friendly and the little shop sells proper local... More

We had a great time talking to the craftsmen, I even got a chance to make a cut. This place is a must for wood workers, history buffs, or Mariners.

I recently revised the Dory Shop Museum. Great examples of hand made dories that were built on site. The tools are present, as well as, the the actual dories. Painted to have the look of the day.

We bought the 3 museum pass, and this was my favorite. Small, but lots to talk about if you are interested. Purchased a whirligig for our deck. Lots of history here.
