It was extremely busy and very hot when we did this walk in July last year. The view is worth the walk but after you have seen the main viewpoint, there is not much else to see. Unfortunately, we did not see any wildlife when we visited (probably too busy!). I would recommend just going back the same way rather... More

Every time we go to the Cape we have to go to the Highlands and hike the Skyline Trail. The approximately 4 1/2 mile round trip is relatively easy with smooth trail surface and gentle slopes. We always see something new each time we hike it and almost always see Moose, Eagles, Spruce Grouse and occasionally a Bear. The reward... More

My boyfriend and I did the skyline trail on our trip to the east coast this September. We had only planned for a couple nights on Cape Breton Island so we had planned to do the trail the last day we were there, unfortunately it was not the best weather, very overcast, extremely windy and it was raining for a... simply amazing! Easy hike/walk and quite rewarding once you reach the end. You get an amazing view of the coastal drive on one side and the ocean on the other. Cape Breton is a must!

Excellent trail...a must do. Moderate but leave a good 3 hours! Views spectacular and moose sightings very likely. Bring a camera!

We walked the trail at the beginning of November. They were expanding the parking lot to deal with summer demand. Judging from the size of the new parking lot, this must be a very, very crowded trail at peak season! Most of the trail is pretty unremarkable. Eventually, it opens out to the point and has steps down to a... More

We entered Cape Breton National Park at the Cheticamp entrance with plans to walk the Skyline Trail. The information center at the entrance of the park has a wonderful map available that lists all of the many hikes in the park along with their length and level of difficulty. Approximately six-miles long, the Skyline Trail is very gentle with beautiful... More

Two options here, walk in to the lookout point and walk back or walk the full loop. We walked the full loop, around 9km. It's a pretty easy trail in terms of terrain. We were told at the visitor info booth the hike the trail counterclockwise for better views and we did that and liked it. The actual look out... More

Great hike for all fitness levels. It was very well maintained and flat. We saw two moose (which was amazing!) and there was a coyote warning, which is something to be aware of. I loved seeing the Atlantic in its wild glory. It's a stunning place.
