Friends of McNab's Island offer guided tours of the isalnd. These are great! It begins with a short chartered boat ride from Eastern Passage to the island. There is a lot of history(some colourful local history as well as forts) and there are plaques to explain what things are but the guided tour was fabulous so we didn't miss anything(or... More

Have boat, will travel....and we did to McNab a few times this summer; have to get back to explore some more. Love traveling the 'lazy river'. Just minutes away from Halifax and you are in a new world.

McNab's is a magical place with beautiful well-groomed trails and numerous historic sites. It makes for a perfect day's getaway from the city, all within easy reach but remote enough that you really feel transported to a different time and place. Recent improvements thanks to the Friends of McNab's conservation group include markers for various trails and sights, and very... More

Had a really wonderful time exploring this beautiful island from top to bottom. Special thanks to our ferryman, Mike Tilley (McNabs Island Ferry Nature Tours), for giving us a memorable experience in the ride to and from the island, as well as providing a map and orientation. All that plus the best price, it's well worth the drive around to... More

I came here 3 times with a day camp years ago, and recently to clean up the Island. I recommend coming here because there is lots of history to learn about. Take a whole day to walk around the island, see the forts, see the houses, take lots of pictures. I will be coming back once or twice more this... More

While there are a lot of cool things to do in Halifax/Dartmouth one that gets overlooked is McNab Island. Visible from both sides of the harbor, it is only accessible by boat. You can get a boat from Halifax, but we did one from Eastern Passage (much closer). Usually they drop you off on one end the of the island... More

Great description of history and significant buildings, plants, wildlife by the Friends of McNabs Island. Pretty view of Halifax Harbour and the entrance to the West Arm Narrows from the cannon sites on McNabs.

This place has lots of trails and some beautiful scenery of both Eastern passage and Halifax. There are some Ford so you can visit however when you get there you land in the middle of the island and the forts are on either end. You may have to pick the direction you want to go. We went to one side... More

we organized transport to the island a day in advance, which was no problem at all. The ferry operator was very accommodating and dropped us off at a beach and picked us up at the northern tip of the island, so we could hike the length of the island. He gave us a great introduction into the history of the... More

We finally made the trip to the island this summer ( a surprise for my wife's' birthday ) for some hiking and geocaching. It was a little rainy but it meant we had the whole place to ourselves. It was a great day and we spent about 4 hours hiking around. There isn't much in the way of anything out... More
