The Halifax Farmers' Market was created by Royal Proclamation in June of...

The Halifax Farmers' Market was created by Royal Proclamation in June of 1750, a year after the founding of Halifax. The Governor and Council designated a site for the Market - the present day Bank of Montreal building. For 50 years this flesh, meat or cattle market, as it was known, sold produce as well as livestock delivered from Acadian farms in the Annapolis Valley and from local farm production.

In 1848 the City of Halifax was incorporated and the original City Charter conveyed the Country Market property to the city "for the public and common benefit and use of the City of Halifax according to the true interest and meaning of the original grant." The Market has operated in several locations across the city since its inception in 1750, but moved to the Halifax Seaport in 2010 where it is now known as the Halifax Seaport Farmers' Market - the longest continuously running Market in North America and proudly hosting over 250 vendors!

Halifax Seaport

The Halifax Seaport is a vibrant arts and cultural district found at the south end of the Halifax waterfront. Extending from Piers 19 to 23, you will find artisans, retailers, cruise terminals, event facilities, cafes, galleries, offices, a museum, a university and the Halifax Seaport Farmers' Market. This district has been redeveloped to showcase local talent and is now a popular destination for locals and visitors alike.

Loved the Farmers Market!

Lots of local artisans and food vendors. There were a few live musicians entertaining as well. Great selection of everything!

Great selection of fruits, veggies, cheese, breads, and breakfast. The breakfast pizza on the second level is YUMMY - even the gluten-free vegetarian version.

This new building and market has incredible indoor air quality and is spotlessly clean, highly regulated for food handling safety. So many vendors from all over NS selling sweets, NS fresh products such as syrups, wines, ciders. Incredible meat vendors, Valley Farm fresh vegetables, bakeries, prepared hot foods, there are at least four restaurants that have buffets or take outs,... More

You will have fun browsing through all the food vendors at this market. There is a pretty good variety, including baked goods, hot sauces and preserves, and local vegetables. You can also find some great spots for breakfast and coffee. The selection of hand crafted items is pretty sparse, however, with the exception of soap. Why they allow so many... More

Great farmers market with much to offer. Many food choices, crafts and arts to choose from. Didn't run into a single vendor who wasn't friendly. Tried many great items. Would recommend and visit again. Awesome views as well.

I've come to the Halifax market probably around 6-7 times in the past year. I do enjoy the market, mainly because I love to eat and they have several diverse/tasty selections. I also really enjoy coming in the summertime because of all of the fresh local produce that is available for good prices. The only shortfall of the market is... More

I'm a complete sucker for farmer's markets. I love local and cultural foods, arts and crafts so I loved this place. I went early and grabbed a coffee as well a some baked goods to knosh while I strolled around. After that I had some dumplings from the nice people at the dumpling stand. Great! The market has great products... More

My family loves to visit the Seaport Market any time we're in the city on a Saturday morning. We mostly go for the soft pretzels and coffee, but always find other treasures to carry home!

Saturday mornings will never be the same once you've made it to the market! Everything from homemade baking, soaps, clothes or hats, art, or organic meats, vegetables ... nothing like it! Don't miss out!
