Baffin Island is the largest island in Canada and the 5th largest island in the world. With its huge size of 507K sq.km (196K sq.miles) and virtually non-existence of roads, it is extremely difficult to explore this island by conventional means. We visited Pond Inlet (72.7001N, 77.9585W) which is at the northeastern corner of Baffin Island and its surrounding waterway... More

We cruised along Baffin Island. There is only a small population on the island, one of the major towns is Pond Inlet. The town is very calm but there is quite a bit to see and you get an insight into the way of living of the Tununirmiut.

Pond inlet is a hamlet in northern Baffin Island with spectacular landscapes. Contact the office of the hamlet for visitor information and tour guides. Do not miss the Nattinnak Centre for lovely displays.

Baffin Island is huge, largest Island in Canada so to cover all in one entry is impossible. From the quaint southern town of Kimmirut, artist lovers will enjoy Cape Dorset and Pangnirtung, to east coast hamlets of Clyde River and Qikiqtarjuaq, the northern towns of Pond Inlet and Arctic Bay and of course Iqaluit the capital are all very much... The Arctic wolf names this place by pawing, prowling, and roving across the landscape. (Lupine visitors are most welcome here!) The walrus knows it by thumping its forehead against the seaside cliffs, looking for a summer rock surface on which to bask and expose its clammy, spackled belly to Phoebus. The rock and the sun, in other words, are just... More

Summary: Unique place on earth. One of the few really wild places left. I took a hiking trip with Black Feather across Auyuittuq Park. It is 14 days hiking in very rugged terrain after being dropped by a boat on the north side (and collected in the south end). You have to carry everything with you, there are no supplies... More

We went by small cruise ship designed for the Arctic to several places on Baffin Island. It was a memorable trip. Initially I raised my eyebrows as the cost was high, but it turned out to be a great experience. The cruise started in, Greenland, where we visited a glacier, followed by a visit to the small Inuit community of... More
