This is an obvious landmark which you can't miss it when you are in Ottawa.
The best and most photographed section of the canal is from the Shaw Centre all the way to end at the confluence point of the canal and Ottawa River.

This is an UNESCO World Heritage site.

Parc Canada has a visitor center there in between the Fairmont Chateau Laurier and the Parliament Hill, which you will learn more about the canal, the construction, and the history. And if you are lucky, you may get to see the canal locks in action.

Canal boat tour is also available during spring/summer/fall season. In winter, this area turns into an outdoor ice-skating facility.

At first glance, you may call it a river. Take a closer look, then you will realize this is an artificial river/canal. Making it to the UNESCO World Heritage list evelates this canal to a whole new level and status.

However, unlike most UNESCO World Heritage Site where UNESCO plaque is displayed in obvious and popular location near the site, the plaque for Rideau Canal is nowhere to be found. I asked multiple staff at the Ottawa Visitor Center. Unfortunately, no one could answer this question.

I walked around the area thoroughly including looking at every corner and possible locations, and still couldn't find it.

This shows they either doesn't have one for Rideau Canal or need to find a more obvious place to showcase it, room for improvement. They failed to showcase what sets this canal apart from other canals: the UNESCO status.

Lovely spot to visit on your travels to Ottawa. Well maintained, clean, and a lot of interesting facts and information posted about. Beautiful views especially at night when things are lit up.

Interesting and beautiful place to take a walk and get a very close look at the canal locks as they let put to the Ottawa River downtown. A boat ride would be a bonus, but we enjoyed it without.

On a staycation, our way to parliament hill we stumbled down some stairs to see where they would lead. It ultimately led us to the canal. It was touch and go for a second as the stairs led below this bridge, which no one appears to be monitoring. This area, a bit dingy and smelly, had a few, possibly homeless, individuals whom from what I assume, were trying to stay hidden. We keep walking until outside the bridge area and were just fascinated with the lock system. Also, very very cool that you can walk out on top of the water, on a wooden plank to look vertically down at the water rushing downwards. Lots of brave people out there.

We saw the locks several times and happened to be going by just as they were getting ready to open them to let the water in and the boats through. It was really quite a marvel - and still all done by hand.

We spent about 30 minutes strolling part of the canal. We walked from U Ottawa crossing light rail station to arrive the pathway. This historic canal was originally built for military transportation but now used by so many people peacefully at the end. Now it is well kept for local residents to stroll and for tourists on scenic cruise. Large amount of seaweed are growing on the river. It may be because of the unusual hot weather. It makes the water less attractive.

The Rideau Canal is one of the most attractive physical features of Eastern Ontario. Always a good spot for a stroll, an afternoon by the water or, in winter, a outing on skates.

There is a boat tour in here. Turns into a skating rink during winter. Seems shallow. A Unesco heritage site and a good place to chill and relax after having a tour by foot on ottawa downtown

This canal goes between the Parliament buildings and the Chateau Laurier Hotel. Small private pleasure boats go up and down and you can stand on the bridge or along the walkway and watch them traverse.
