This place is a nice little museum that can be visited under 1 hour. In fact, the audioguide (free with entrance fee) lasts about 45 minutes and covers everything contained in the museum (except for the free Rideau Canal exhibit behind the ticketing office). Bear...More

We had good weather and were very curious about this museum. We went for a long walk around the Parliament Buildings and took in the Bytown Museum. I couldn't believe how big it was and all the history was great to learn. The locks are...More

This small, but perfectly formed museum is worth visiting both for its stunning location in city centre Ottawa as well as the interesting and Informative audio commentary on the history of the city. Housed in the oldest stone building in Ottawa, it sits next to...More

small museum with the great setting. surrounding is peaceful right next to Rideau Canal. Staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. This museum presents a history and heritage of Bytown which was renamed to Ottawa, good hour of fun for whole family.

I find this museum to be a bit dull and uninteresting. There's nothing really wrong with it, but it didn't catch my attention much while I was there and didn't stick with me after I felt.

Set in a historic building next to the Rideau Canal, this museum offers a look at the history of Ottawa. There are three floors of exhibits and an audio guide tour of the permanent exhibits. There is also a temporary exhibit of community milestones.
