It’s all aboard as you travel to the end of steel on 592-mile, round trip ‘Tour of the Line’ to the French Canadian community of Hearst, Ontario. Your journey begins at the Algoma Central Railway depot in downtown Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, where you will board our regular passenger service for a day-long rail adventure that combines the rugged mixed forests of the Canadian Shield, experienced on the Agawa Canyon Tour Train, with the boreal forests of the Great Clay Belt region. In marked contrast to the mountainous Shield country, the Clay Belt region, home to the lordly moose, is a combination of level coniferous forests and great inland lakes teeming with northern pike and walleye.

My husband and I had been on the trip several times but it was 20 years ago. We took our 18 year old son. It was as wonderful as we remembered. The colors were beautiful. We ate breakfast in the dining car. (Only negative is that there is no breakfast option really for people that do not eat eggs.) I... More

Travelled on September 21. Our Agawa Canyon train had 17 passenger cars that day, mostly tour groups from far and wide. Had interesting chats with American visitors from Ohio during the ride. A Ten Hour day, starting at 8 am and ending at 6 pm. The train ride is scenic, but needs a person over the PA telling stories and... More

This was so breathtaking, loved it.. had a blast, worth the money.. crew was really great. I will say for the money, there could have been 2 dinning carts.. for 850 passengers and 1 dinning car, we were not able to sit.. we walked all the way to the end of the train to not be served. It was way... More

The trip is 9 1/2 hours thru fantastic Canadian scenery. Lots of lakes and the leaves were changing Sept 30. We had a beautiful sunny day. Helpful hints, bring your own picnic lunch and snacks. The train has a dining car and snack bar. The coffee is good, but the donuts and sandwichs do not benefit from the Saran Wrap.... More

Lovely views in a well maintained traditional rail car. We were fortunate enough to visit in the fall and enjoyed the spectacular colours. The hiking in the canyon was easy and very picturesque. The only draw back was the dinning experience. Very expensive for the level of cuisine and service. Our waitress seemed new and was in need of a... More

The scenery is breathtaking and the train ride is very nostalgic. The canyon itself is tranquil with plenty of room to stretch your legs on the many trails there. Well worth a ride on the rails.

The trip was very beautiful and helpful info about the area was a nice touch. When you arrive at the canyon, you have hiking trails you can stretch your legs on, or you can picknick, right beside the train on many of the pick-nick tables there. The only complaint I had was our seats faced another set of seats and they... We really enjoyed the train trip. Beautiful scenery - very peaceful ride. I liked the narrative about the heritage of the country.

Took my parents who were visiting from England on this train tour, and we all enjoyed it. We picked up our pre-booked tickets the night before as you have to be ready to board at 7.30am. We were prepared with our own picnic lunch, and hearing the price of the lunches on the train I am glad we did. Saw... More

The railway operates as Awaga Tours and a trip to the Awaga Canyon. The trip is about 10 hours round trip from Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, and includes a 90-minute stop in the Awaga Canyon. The train is comfortable and modern, seats are spacious. The tour guide narrative is adequate and not intrusive. Views are good. The time at the... More
