My daughter, age 5, and I went to see Sleeping Beauty, and we were both stunned by the beauty of the theater. It is small without being too small, and the sound was great! They have kept, what looks like, all the original details. We even had a ride in the antique elevator, just like you would see in the... More

We visit the Elgin annually. Always lovely, clean, beautiful theatre. Easy to get to right on Yonge Street across from the Eaton Centre. Very good place to see performances. They should open the winter garden theatre more often. It is also lovely and very good place to see performances. Both have beautiful architecture. They are one theatre above the other... More

A typical Ross Petty production - geared for the entire family; a 5 year old would enjoy the show just as much as a 75 year old - funny adaptation of a classical story. well done, but wished that they would skip the commercials as tickets are expensive enough.

Took 10 yr old niece to this and we both loved it - music was great, jokes were funny for both adults and children BUT I RESENT being subjected to FOUR commercials for show sponsors during the show, even under the guise of being part of it! Tickets are costly and I DON'T want to see commercials! I will definitely... More

I have attended many shows at this venue. The historic appearance of the theater has been kept, and wonderful it is to behold. Acoustics are great. The staff friendly and helpful.

It was great! We wondered what it would be like without Ross Petty acting in the show, and although we miss Ross's wit as an actor, we loved the show. We brought our 9 year old grandson and his buddy (also age 9). Everyone enjoyed lots of music, comedy and excitement. Second half was even better than the first. Hilary... More

The Elgin and Winter Gardens are, I believe, the last stacked (one on top of another) live production theatres in the world. The two are vastly different, so I'll break it down for you. Elgin Theatre - located on the main floor, the Elgin is opulent. Gold gilded columns and features, large chandelier..it transports you back to a by-gone era... More

The must-see place in Toronto if you like Art Deco. Winter Theater is especially nicely decorated and unusual for (normally less frivolous-minded) Toronto

We attend the film festival every year. Comfortable seating. Very large venue. Excessive stairs. The winter garden ceiling is very interesting.

Staying in Downtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Downtown
At the heart of Toronto, Downtown is the destination for cheap eats and fast fashion. Cut through by hip and trendy Yonge Street, the vibe here is young, with a strong student influence from the Ryerson University Campus. As a result, the Downtown area is always in flux: undergoing the construction of new facilities, with fresh retail spaces and pop-up cafes. Home to Toronto's largest indoor shopping mall, a number of vintage cinemas, and a healthy nightlife centered on the area's Distillery District bar and clubs near the East End, it's both an easygoing daytime spot and a popular party place after sunset. It also features some of Toronto's best outdoor landmarks, including Yonge-Dundas Square and the Nathan Phillips Square: perfect for a concert, a skate, or a relaxing sit-down.
