I have been going to Hugh's Room for years. After many years they finally changed the menu. Well that was a watered down disaster. And now they have changed it again. 2 of us shared the Cheese Board. Because the prices are so high. We had some wine and a dessert. Some more affordable selections would be nice. This new... More

If the music venue wasnt so good, I wouldn't bother. Good view of stage from every seat. From what I can see, great acts (I saw some high quality Jazz). Service was pleasant, and attentive. The food needs some work to be considered wothwhile for me. My Jambalaya was very weak at best. Stick with appetizers and dessert. The good... More

A recent performance by famed Chicago-based jazz pianist Patricia Barber was somewhat marred by poor service, and a horribly slow kitchen. Although that isn't the end of the world, and the food was decent for the most part, the portions were "smallish" and it took about one HOUR for our meals to arrive. The server was polite - when he... More

Last night was our annual jaunt to Hugh's Room for the headline acts of the Tin Pan North extravaganza, a three-day celebration of the craft of writing Nashville-style country music. So should this be a performance review or a food review? Let's stick with food, because readers can visit daily to try the menu, but will have to wait a... More

Great music, good food, friendly staff. Felt right at home upon walking in. Met up with family from out of town for dinner and live music. Will definitely be back. Hit final event of blues series for season...wowed by performance of Crystal Shawanda (country/blues).

Booked tickets for the performance and dinner as well. The food was very good. The service was good as well in spite of the room being quite busy. This was a great venue to see performers, musical acts and such. It was a good size and sight lines to the stage seemed to be fine. I would rather visit High's... More

I have seen Paul Brady (Irish singing legend) and the ex-Lead singer of the Alarm, Mike Peters at Hugh's Room and both events were fantastic. Upon first entering the place, think like the Horseshoe with a dinner menu and nicer tables. Both times going the food has been ok, beer/wine reasonable price, service I thought very attentive, but the atmosphere... More

We went to Hugh's Room twice over the holidays, once for their Bluesy Christmas and then for New Year's Eve. On both occasions the music was terrific. The food is standard fare but tasty. Always alot of fun to go there. Highly recommend for an evening out with friends.

We were seated for dinner right at the stage it was exciting! Dinner was served well, flavoured and presented nicely. The salad was fresh and full of mixed greens but lacking any dressing. The chicken was good, not exciting but no dry either. The shrimp and pasta dinner was the better dish. Carrot cake was amazing! Good wine selection but... More

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
The go-to area for new business start-ups, the spry and creative persona of the West End thrives along its streets. Its independent boutiques, galleries, restaurants, and shops offer brands that can't be found elsewhere. Buildings with ground floor consumer spaces sport up-top artist's lofts, and the West End attracts artists, designers, and fashion industry professionals to its living quarters. It is in the cross-hairs of gentrification, but still resisting it with ironic relish. Hot deals can still be found here on furniture and knick-knacks,. Its call to culinary glory is in its well-priced homemade Polish food, hosting Toronto's go-to spots for hot pierogis and cold borscht. High Park, the largest green space in the city, is a place for dreamers and poets to wander and rest, not to mention a number of energetic actors staging outdoor plays in the summertime.
