I stayed in this neighborhood for two nights and I loved it. I was a woman travelling alone and I felt completely safe walking around at night. People were helpful and kind.

A very run down area. Lots of homeless and people with mental health issues on the streets. Discarded needles in the parks. Only a handful of decent shops but would not be surprised if they close soon and move out of the area. A great...More

After a few years I decided to come back with a few friends to the Church/Wellesley area for a night out. There was no Byzantium, no Slack Alice, No Zelda's, etc, etc, etc. All the places we entered were sad looking with NO atmosphere. No...More

Sadly this area has become squalid and dangerous. Violence and antisocial behavior have become a daily if not an hourly occurrence. The area is awash with homeless, drug addicts and people newly released from prison. Whilst they have their own stories and challenges it is...More

I love going to gay bars and pubs. I love the nightlife and the boozy drinks. Truth be told, however: the Toronto gay village on Church Street is really in decline. Some of the very decent restaurants have been replaced by dumpier, not-so-great diners, or...More

This is the centre of the city's gay culture, but there is little here to necessarily identify it as such, unless you are there for the nightlife. As such it is not really a site in itself, as it is mostly just a bunch of...More

Twenty years ago the "Gay Village" was the place to be in Toronto. It was overflowing with trendy, young men and women of all sexual persuasions, with very hip bars and restaurants, and stylish shops. Those days have gone. Today, several of the storefronts are...More

This is the gay area in Toronto, all streets, banks and shops have the gay flag in their logo or walls. Very nice to walk around.

There are many wonderful local restuarants, bars and cafe's down the Church Street corridore. It's also a wonderful place for people watching. The bright rainbow coloured flags and markings up and down the street give a a friendly atmosphere to this strip of Toronto. It's...More
