We walked up and down Notre-Dame Street many times on a recent visit to Montreal. Notre-Dame Street is a historic east-west street located in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. One of the oldest streets in Montreal, Notre-Dame was created in 1672. There are many things to do along this Street, including visiting the Notre-Dame Basilica. There are plans to turn the eastern... More

So many shops and great restaurants! I spent a couple evenings on the patio in front of Notre Dame Basilica and ended up chatting with the most interesting of people! Listening to musicians, enjoying an espresso, riding the carriage, so much to do!

Historic street lined with magnificent European-style buildings and structures, including the Notre Dame Cathedral, City Hall, Nelson's Column and Justice Hall. Good jump off point for the downtown waterfront, which itself has plenty of attractions.

The six blocks or so of Rue Notre-Dame running from Rue Gosford/Rue Saint-Claude in the north to Rue Saint-Francis-Xavier to the south take one through the heart of Old Montreal by City Hall, the Chateau Ramezay Museum, Palace of Justice, Place Jacques Cartier, Place d’Armes, the Bank of Montreal and, of course, Notre-Dame Basilica not to mention by many restaurants... Notre Dame goes a long stretch from St-Henri (south of Atwater) to the Municipal Court (south of Place d'Armes).. The part west of Atwater (St-Henri) is bouncing back after years of abandonment after the Forum got moved to Downtown...The Atwater Market is very attractive and interesting and the nearby Canal Lachine. On the Eastern Extreme, you have Old Montreal, the... More

Notre-Dame street is a busy east-west artery in the south of Montreal. You will find many landmarks like the Notre-Dame Basilica or city hall.

Awesome street starting from the Old Port all the way down to Des Courcelles in the St-Henri district. You can spend an entire Morning walking down Notre Dame. So many amazing shops and restos. From antique shops, to vintage clothing shops, second hand gems, very funky bars and pubs many of which I have reviewed. The Atwater Market is also... More

Staying in Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)

Neighbourhood Profile
Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)
The historic centre of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its centre, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theatre.
