As a young girl I used to visit this church as least once a month because it was the place the bus route from my house would go direct and my mother would allow me to have some autonomy. I have memories of my first taste of independence. Nothing religious here per se. However due to my early taste of... More

St. Joseph's Oratory is high atop Mount Royal above Montreal. If you can find them, there are many, many stairs that lead from the city to the top of the mountain, but driving up to the Oratory is the best way to get there. There is a charge to park in the lower lot to take photos, but it is... More

Well worth the stair hike up. This is one of Montreal's landmarks and one that can be seen from miles away (even from Vermont, on a nice clear day)

We found St. Joseph's Oratory very beautiful, calming, and easy to navigate. The $2 booklet purchased at the beginning of the tour was very informative. Highly recommend visiting this church if you are in the area.

Rich in history, this is a must see place for not only it's architecture, the gardens are breathtaking too. I had the privilege of visiting the dome; unfortunately not for visitors. Over 800 stairs to climb but boy was it worth it.

Lovely view even if you don't believe. Nice place to meditate and pray. Lots of stairs to get to the top of you don't drive.

The Oratory is one of the most beautiful places one must visit when in Montreal. Tourists and locals come to this place for very special favours apparently granted to them by St Joseph, who is also a patron saint of the sick. Every time I visit Montreal, this is a place I go to aside from the awesome Notre Dame... More

The Oratory is a very nice location to visit. It is very beautiful inside, and has many chapels in addition to a basilica to walk through. The history of the location is very interesting to learn about, and the original church built by Father Andres is still on the property and is accessible to the public. Lastly, there is an... More

St. Joseph's Oratory of Mount Royal has to be one of the majestic churches ever. It looks so grand and stunning when you look at it from the entrance gate. It’s free to get in and donations are welcomed. It takes a lot to keep this church this beautiful. As equally beautiful is the garden with its spectacular statues, very... More

Staying in Parc du Mont-Royal

Neighbourhood Profile
Parc du Mont-Royal
Montreal was named for this hilly highland, where the tallest spot in the city overlooks its most extensive parkland. The greenspace of Parc du Mont-Royal is an outdoorsman's dream, with hiking trails and nature walks that cater to every season and level of athlete. In the winter, cross-country skiers, tobogganers, and ice skaters don their equipment by Beaver Lake and its pavilion, while the warmer months bring families and competitors to the pitches of Jeanne-Mance Park for tennis, soccer, football, baseball, volleyball, or a dip in the community pool. A perfect spot for a stroll or a picnic, the forest foliage is dotted with sculpture art and offers views of some of Mont-Royal's oldest edifices, the towering St. Joseph's Oratory and the mausoleums of Notre-Dame-des-Neiges. Home to musical celebrations and twilight snowshoeing alike, visit here to walk, write, rest, think, or just be.
