Maison Saint-Gabriel, museum and historic site, opened its doors in 1966. Located in Pointe-Saint-Charles, this magnificent 300-year-old building is one of the finest examples of the traditional architecture of New France. Purchased by Marguerite Bourgeoys in 1668 to house the King’s Wards, it lay at the heart of the agricultural and educational activities of the Congrégation de Notre-Dame for three centuries.

I have wanted to visit this house for several years, it was always at the bottom of my list. I would now put it at the top. On a Wednesday afternoon at 4pm my niece and I embarked on a one hour tour of this...More

Real historical experience (with genuine quebecois lunch!!). Interesting, genuine c19 girls training school. Interesting gardens. Worth the side trip off the routine tourist circuit.

What a lovely highlight of our trip to Montreal. After climbing Mont Royal in the morning, my husband and I and our 10 and 14 year old daughters were looking for something for the afternoon. We wanted to learn about the history of Montreal but...More

This is off the beaten path, maybe a 15-20 minute walk from the metro, though you pass by a pretty park, and some interesting streets if you avoid the most direct route with runs along a major thoroughfare. Gardens very pretty, and this is a...More

If it was free, I'd say pass by if you are in the area. However, there is not much to see and it is grossly over-priced. Nice building and pleasant tiny gardens, but seriously lacking in any true value and I live 15 minutes away....More

This was way more than I expected. A really good story of what happened in the area. Call ahead to find out what time the tour is offered!

You'd never expect to see a gem like this in the middle of the city! The craftsmanship of this building is absolutely amazing. The historical factor, and stories that go with this place are so interesting. Please make this a place to see!!!

This museum is a little out of the way but well worth the visit. Go to Charlesvoix metro station and then it's about a 15 minute walk. The museum only takes cash for entry so make sure you have some on you. The site is...More

The brochure for Maison Saint-Gabriel simply does not do the place justice - I can not recommend a visit highly enough. The entrance fee was $10 which included an hour long captivating and highest quality tour - in my case one to one. (French or...More

We really enjoyed our visit. We had a tour of the house - had a choice of English or French. Outside there were a number of talented craftspeople demonstrating their skills. All the guides were in costume and were very well trained. Fascinating place that...More
