I studied at UdeM, as the university is commonly known. It's a nice enough university, with some nice architecture if you know where to look. The main hall of Roger-Gaudry (the ubiquitous building with the huge tower, which is the health sciences building) is a pretty nice place, and there's a bunch of old doors and wooden staircases throughout the... I developed a taste for visiting university campuses in Montreal. The student life in the city is really rich. The campus of Université de Montréal is really nice and harbors some nice architecture. May be its best asset is its location on the northern side of Mont Royal. However, as a campus I would rate it in second place after... More

The school itself is decent and old looking. I wouldn't suggest going out of your way to visit. Nice architecture. Parking can be hard to find and if you pay for parking at Roger Gaudry pavilion, it will cost you $16.

There is something different about Université de Montréal as it has not a real campus with a central quadrant or green between the buildings. In fact the whole place is set on the slopes and plateaus of the northern sidse of Mount Royal. The idea was to have just one pavillon sitting in the middle of a forest. The task... More

we liked our visit: they have buildings of reasonable size. There was some art display when we were there. It is also very well located on the Mountain. Easy to access. Montreal is a secure city.

Lots of money and enthusiasm has gone into this university. Strange part is that they have not done much about making a college town of the surrounding neighborhood - I suppose the rest of the city offers too much for the students to stay close to home.

Staying in Parc du Mont-Royal

Neighbourhood Profile
Parc du Mont-Royal
Montreal was named for this hilly highland, where the tallest spot in the city overlooks its most extensive parkland. The greenspace of Parc du Mont-Royal is an outdoorsman's dream, with hiking trails and nature walks that cater to every season and level of athlete. In the winter, cross-country skiers, tobogganers, and ice skaters don their equipment by Beaver Lake and its pavilion, while the warmer months bring families and competitors to the pitches of Jeanne-Mance Park for tennis, soccer, football, baseball, volleyball, or a dip in the community pool. A perfect spot for a stroll or a picnic, the forest foliage is dotted with sculpture art and offers views of some of Mont-Royal's oldest edifices, the towering St. Joseph's Oratory and the mausoleums of Notre-Dame-des-Neiges. Home to musical celebrations and twilight snowshoeing alike, visit here to walk, write, rest, think, or just be.
