Walking the narrow cobblestone streets of Lower Town is like stepping through a magic portal and arriving in Old World France. We visited in late February, in the quiet after the Winter Carnival, and the quaint shops and restaurants were dressed in white lights and elaborate door decor that swept festively across their entire facades. The shops were a mix... More

Walking distance from the boardwalk, great vistas on the way down, quaint little shops and restaurants to browse. Take the funicular back up - perfect!

Go down the funicular or walk down into the old town from the steps. It's lovely for a walk around and to see all the sites down there. Spend an hour or two walking around and enjoy the shopping and cafes and restaurants. Lovely place.

Lower Town is the site of the original Québec City settlement in Canada. The narrow streets combined with old architecture make this one of the most scenic areas of Old Québec. Place Royale is the Heart of Old Québec City. Place Royale is the largest surviving ensemble of 17th and 18th century buildings in North America. It stands on the... More

The Lower Town in Quebec City bridges then and now. It still functions as a community and commercial space while showing the early habitation of early settlement. The contrast between old and new shows what remains while still showing a glimpse into a world from almost four centuries ago.

Start at the top and enjoy the walk down into the abyss of little storefronts. A must see if in the area.

This is such a delightful part of Quebec city. The stores are definitely catered to tourists. But there are some cool art galleries and restaurants. The hilly, winding roads add to the charm of the city.

Loved the shops in lower town! If I return, I will buy something from the woodcarving art shop. I was really impressed with the artwork. It's a short walk down from the castle. Also, it doesn't take long to walk through Lower Town.

To my mind there are only a few cities and places in North America that retain a unique, old world charm, whether they be in San Francisco, New Orleans or Boston. This lovely neighborhood in old Quebec is one of them. Step back in time to when the French and English vied for control of this strategic seaport by strolling... More
