Toys of yesteryear

A chance to reminisce over toys you had or toys that you wish you had. Also a good collection of fairground machines.

Good, but don't go if disabled!
Sep 2021 • Couples
Whilst the museum is good, lots to remind you of the 60s and 70s, I have to add that if you are disabled, then this is not the place for you.
It is a 250 foot steep climb up a hill.
There are also steps and stairs within the museum, and no lifts, a wheelchair if you can push up the hill, is a tight squeeze in the museum itself
Also the website says its £12, when in fact its £13.50 (website is out of date! ) no concessions for disabled either. (50p off for OAP)
Sadly disappointed.

Terrifying in all the right ways

What a collection! We came as part of a trip to Mountfitchet and were curious - it was amazing to see so many toys so well preserved, and some still working. We were there during a very quiet time and Marilyn Monroe scared the bejeezuz out of us. Highly recommended!

Visit as part of the castle tour.
Sep 2020 • Couples
There were no visitors there when we visited, and it's a fairly small place, so social distancing could have been a problem. But there was a young lady in attendance to control entry.
It's well stocked with all sorts of stuff from a star wars exhibit to Dr Who and daleks.
As a 68 year old I could recognise many of the toys from my youth, so was a bit nostalgic.
Well worth a visit if you also visit the so called castle, which is in fact a wood lined fort.

Toy museum
Aug 2020
Visited the Toy Museum as part of a visit to Mountfitchet Castle. It certainly contained a large number of toys and artefacts . A face covering has to be worn, however the displays are quite close to each other, and social distancing is a real problem.
However, with a little thought, a visit can be made into an enjoyable experience.

Wow! What a nostalgia trip!

This place is crammed full of fascinating stuff and all ages would love it! An impressive personal collection - we loved the immense Star Wars collection! So much to see including dolls, teddies, Action Man, puppets, plus rock and roll memorabilia! Quirky and fun.

We really enjoyed our trip to the Toy Museum!!
So many toys, so much fun going around looking at them.

Loved that there were old arcade machines that you could use.

The Halloween upstairs tour was great fun, and actually a little scary!

Loved it, a real trip down memory lane! (Would love to see more barbies)

Thank you- fantastic!!!

The best toy museum I have visited

So many toys, so many childhood memories - Star Wars, Action Man, Chopper and Grifter bikes, He-Man, toy cars, meccano and many many more.

This is the worst toy combination and presentation I've ever seen.
Aug 2019
We visited this toy museum today as a part of the Mountfitchet castle visit.
This toy museum was advertised as being the largest and one of the best in the world, thus our expectation where kept high. The toy museum is very old fashioned and they have no clever way of presenting their large collection. Everything gets overly stacked up behind glass with no longer any clear order.

For example, they have upstairs a nicely presented farm with lead toy animals. The scene idea is nice but they over crowded the place so much that it rather looks like a stack of animals than like a nicely presented museum item. Right next to this there should be a girls doll section. In the middle of that section is a large Terminator figure. There is just no order, nor structure whatsoever in this place.

Having so much toys is one thing but combining it with a World War collection is another. The military artifacts are so not in line with what a toy museum should stand for. In addition there are so many German items that it almost started looking like an adoration. Like is that graphity of Hitler really an added value to your collection?? No offence.. but it's just bad taste.

Overal this museum turned out to leave me baffled in a very negative way.
