Great place for free walks and takeaway coffee
Dec 2020
In late December Ightham Mote is actually closed as a house to visit. And anyway it is closed because of Tier 4 Covid restrictions. But you can park your car in the car park for free, get takeaway coffee and some outstanding bacon baps and eat them on the picnic tables just outside the property. If you want to walk you can walk around the house and up on the other side- frankly seeing as much as you would of the exterior even if you had paid money to go in . So, for free Ightham Mote makes a very sensible place to meet up with friends in an outdoor setting and in a socially distanced way.

Magnificent Medieval Manor House
Sep 2020 • Solo
Having seen pictures of Ightham Mote and loving historic buildings, seeing it for the first time was awesome. It is an unbelievably picturesque medieval manor house. It is stunning to look at from every angle. Unfortunately due to Covid-19 the inside of the house wasn't open, but the setting with the moat surrounding the house is wonderful. The cafe with outside seating was open serving drinks and light snacks etc.
I would go so far as to say it ranks very highly among historic buildings I've seen....and I have seen the Taj Mahal and Golden Temple at Amritsar in India !
I would definitely go back when the house is open.

What a wonderful and interesting place
Sep 2020
What a wonderful and interesting place. We really enjoyed our recent visit, the gardens are something quite special. The other facilities that are here are good too. Ample parking and nice walks here also. The staff here were all really friendly and helpful.
Never been here before, but we look forward to visiting again.

A one way system, as you’d expect, and very interesting grounds. House not open, but still well worth a visit.

You've got to know its there or read hard the National Trust guide. Lovely out of the way place, well worth a wonder. Will go back once the house is open.

Nice visit
Aug 2020
Igtham Mote is a great National Trust site to visit in Kent. The grounds/gardens around the building itself are nice to walk around; there is a good mixture of gardens and open spaces. The cafe is large (though we couldn't sit in there when we went due to covid) and serves a reasonable range of drinks and light bites. There are pathways around the site for those with mobility problems, and there is a large space to have a picnic. There is also a play area for kids (also closed due to covid).I have a National Trust membership so didn't pay for my visit at the site; I do think it's a bit expensive if you pay-as-you-go with National Trust sites. Plenty of car parking space too.

Post Covid Visit
Aug 2020
Beautiful place. Very well organised post covid 19. Friendly staff. Could of done with a few more tables/benches in the shade as was a very hot day. But there was plenty of shady spots for a picnic blanket.
