Stunning little chapel in beautiful surroundings
Aug 2018 • Family
We visited this charming little chapel and all ages of the family thoroughly enjoyed it. We all rang the bell and wandered through the chapel and learnt the history of St Barbe. The grounds are very beautiful and we spent a lot of time taking photos of the scenery. There is a little cafe on site and we enjoyed drinks and ice creams in the sun. Can’t recommend this enough, is definitely worth a visit we will definitely be returning to walk all the way down to the river and see the boulders.

Breathtaking

Eventually we found it! We wandered down past the cafe, ringing the bell en route. We ignored the Chapel and found a mystical path down through the forest. We passed the spring, having a quick wish and continued on down a steeper grass path. At the bottom, we found a perfect spot to sit and just watch. A river with boulders, fabulous noise and amazing blue dragonflies. What more do you want? We continued to walk along the riverbank and eventually realised we would have to turn round. The path back up looked worse and steeper than it was. A quick visit to the less impressive Chapel and a well deserved ice cream looking over the valley. Goodness knows how many photos I took. I can’t recommend the walk down enough. Don’t miss the river!

Amazing place, visited during winter period so was not able to access the chapel. If you are in the area it is well worth a visit. Only had an hour to spare so intend to return and have a good look round and explore the valley on which side this building was constructed some 400 odd years ago and make sure the chapel is open to visitors at same time. Unbelievable place.

What a great place to spend an afternoon with the family, The church is tucked away and is a testament to the builders of the time. Its lovely inside so make a detour from the main Lorient freeway and pop in.

Lovely, tranquil spot

A beautiful church in an unusual setting, there is a car park at the top, and the church itself is hidden in a small narrow valley accessible via steps. Head on further down the path and you will find a little well dedicated to Sainte Barbe, and the beautiful, calming river (the descent is rather steep so I would avoid going there on a wet day). There is a bar at the top which makes a nice stop for a drink and a snack after all that walking.
