Although not a fan of continued use of fossil fuels, a visit to this visitor centre was pleasant and illuminating. It is NZ's only oil refinery so is a key structure for transport and industry. The visitor centre includes a huge model of the refinery which was constructed as a template before the refinery was built (aparently these mock-ups were... More

Best place to take kids. Lets them learn about where oil and gas come from. What the refinery does. What the refinery is.

This is a free entrance to quite a large visitors centre. There is a large video screen showing how the crude oil is manufactured in to lots of other products. In the same room there is the biggest model of a complex I have ever seen. It took two men over a year to build. There is lots of videos,... More

A fascinating place to visit - we were on tour in two coaches - there was plenty of space for everyone and we could have stayed longer. The detailed model with its accompanying video explained the development and workings of the refinery very well. Entry is free.

It was a wet week-end so we were looking for somewhere to entertain our children for a little while, this information centre did that very nicely. It has a detailed model of the refinery, with a video that detailed what different parts of the model was representing, as the video ran the different areas would light up, so I could... More

For once we did not drive on through. It was just a 8 km detour from the main highway, and well worth a visit. Entry was free and the lady at the front desk was very helpful and friendly. There were two short video presentation one on searching and drilling for oil and the other a documentary on the process... More

We've seen the development over the years of the Marsden Point refinery and never had the time to check it out before. I'd never even looked it up in Trip Advisor, but knew we should visit it sometime. It's so fascinating that everyone should make sure they take a trip here, if they are in the area. After all it's... I was a bit lost, stumbled across the NZ Refining/Marsden Point visitors Centre, and thought I'd have a look. The large map of the pipeline from Marsden Point to Auckland was interesting. The displays upstairs explaining how the refining process works were quite detailed and well done. But the model of the refinery (it cost $1 million to make) was... More
