Every time I go to the Abruzzo national park I can't help but go to Val Fondillo. Paths to do on foot, by bike or on horseback immersed in nature, along the river and passing from one bank to the other. Now they have also built a suspension bridge and it is great fun for the children. At the entrance there is a refreshment bar, bike and horse rental and a picnic area.

The entrance to the valley is near Opi. Park in the car park next to the Park Centre and picnic area (3 euro 50 cent charge). There are several different walks through the flower-filled meadows and along the riverbank. The valley was alive with butterflies and there was the constant song from the birds.
We took the main track and walked for an hour before returning the same way. The surface was unmade but easily walkable and used by the occasional park vehicle and cyclist.
The views were superb and for most of the time we had the place to ourselves.
A very pleasant place to visit which we thoroughly recommend.

This is just to warm you. Even the leaflet of the Val Fondíllo it self mentions the wrong Opi and the wrong postal code! Tripadvisers is also mistaken.
Take the Ópi near the village
Pescaserolli and not near Ĺ Aquila.
For the rest the leaflet of Val Fondillo is ok. I come back to you!

Very superficial management. I don't know who the park authority entrusted it to!! I arrive from the north by camper on August 15th 2023. At 8am the car park opens completely empty, a parking attendant tells me that they don't accept campers today, to go to the nearby campsite (!!?). I find parking many km away but I have a scooter, so I go back on a scooter and.....there are campers parked. I complain to the same parking attendant who tells me: here the management changes its mind every moment, I have nothing to do with it. Seriousness and honesty towards the Park Authority.

I appreciate really the atmosphera: time was strange walking there, 2 hours worth 7: we thouhgt it were late in the afternoon while it was only lunch time!
The river follow your steps and also your thoughs, that becomes more deep..magic, romantic. You can walk easily for 8 hours, till a fountain in the wood, or till "grotta delle fate", a very special place.
I didn like the beginning of the path (first kilometer) with families and people some of them..SMOKING (!! there?...), and that you need to pay the park 3,5 euro to have nothing in change.

delicious, I use come back there anyway once in the year.

Always wonderful Val Fondillo, with its easy and difficult paths depending on your ability. Pure air, sun, shade and lots of relaxation. Super recommended

We went to Val Fondillo together with my dog, you pay five euros to enter for parking, after which you can do different types of walks from the shortest of half an hour to those lasting seven hours, obviously we are talking about one way we are we only managed to do three hours of walking there and back, the landscape is fantastic, immersed in nature and with streams of fresh water that you can drink, you can also do horseback riding, if you find yourself in these parts, take off your clock and enjoy the whole day

Beautiful, well-kept place, large paid parking 5 euros with a large picnic area, possibility of renting ebikes and horse riding... the walk in nature along the banks of the stream is wonderful... you can meet horses and others animals for which you just need to know how to behave... you also come across a small suggestive Tibetan bridge to take some nice photos... well-marked paths you just need to decide how much you want to walk....

A wonderful area of the Abruzzo National Park, Unesco heritage for its centuries-old beech forests, among the oldest in Europe. In fact, along the many paths that branch off from the main parking lot, you can meet monumental specimens, of great charm. We walked the path to Passo dell'Orso, surrounded by green trees and observing many varieties of mushrooms. Our kids had a great time.

Having arrived in the afternoon we followed the shortest path meeting the water source until we reached the suspension bridge over the stream. It is doable with children.
