The tomb of the Serbian royal family
May 2021
The monument on the top of Oplenac is very impressive. It's a tomb of Karadjordjevic family, and is old more than a 100 years. The façade of the object is made of white marble, and all the icons on the inside walls are mosaics made of Murano glass.

Beautiful Central Serbia!
Sep 2020
In the very heart of Serbia, on the hill surrounded by forest which is actually a huge nature park, there is the Church on the top with Mausoleum inside with exceptional frescoes next to the underground part intended for the tombs of the Serbian Krađorđević dynasty and their descendants. Right across the Church standing house of King Peter with paintings, documents and personal stuff exhibition worth to visit as well with vineyards close to the Church. Whole hill and the town of Topola are just wonderful, real rich vineyard area with a small streets and chestnut, walnut trees placed all around the place...

A must see in the area!

Stunning church with a crypt underground. Very interesting, historical and beautiful building. Note, there is a little incline to walk to the building, nothing too strenuous though. Absolutely recommended!

A hidden gem in Serbia
Sep 2019
St George's church is beautiful inside and out. We had a brief talk in English which really helped to appreciate how the amazing mosaics that line the walls and ceiling were created and what the images represent. Don't forget to go into the crypt which is down a short flight of stairs but when you get to the bottom there's a real 'wow' moment, the most amazing crypts I've ever been into. It's not dark so don't be put off by the word crypt, it's utterly beautiful and not to be missed. Nearby is also the royal residence of the Karadordevic family. A very small and modest royal residence. An interesting guided tour of only 4 rooms, it really is a modest building. Unfurnished but has some interesting displays of some of the family's possessions and portraits of the family. Objects have English explanations but you need a guide to tell you what you are really looking at and the significance. I was so pleased we stopped to see this place and the church in the grounds. The royal residence is not worth a special trip but the church absolutely is worth seeking out. One of the best.

Beautiful place

This place has a fabulous church in a pretty setting. The lovely fields, hills and forest are a charming landscape. Some key history here of the last 200 years as the country broke away from the Ottoman Empire.

Worth a detour

The White Church as it’s known is just beautiful. The white stone which was used for its building gives it a clean air and at the same time an air of purity. Inside one is surprised with a world of colors. The artists in charge of the work surveyed what was best in the monasteries of the Orthodox world and selected and copied the most beautiful representations for this church. The result is fantastic. Enjoy!

Friend took me here to see the church and other surrounding attached attractions. The church itself is just amazing. Below is the catacombs and is all quite a spectacular sight to behold. A must if passing through Topola.

Well worth the visit

A beautiful mosaic mosuleum/church telling the sad story of Serbia's monarchy. Being a significant heritage site is probably what saved it during the communist era. Don't miss, even if it requires a detour.
