Excellent walk around the whole park with some excellent views. Visited on the Sunday before National Day holiday and was very quiet. 60¥ for adults to enter and free for over 70s. You can do a long rigorous walk or a shorter trail depending on which paths you pick. 750¥ to hire a round trip private car from Kunming. No food or cafe available at the park, just vending machines with bottled drinks.

For reference we came here straight after the main part of the park (greater and lesser) and we enjoyed this part a lot more. The scenery here is great, quite varied and only marginally less spectacular than the main park. The key difference is that while the main park is like a mosh pit at a music festival (extreme crowds in summer) this park was virtually empty. We saw around 13 other tourists in our 3 hours here. Given this park is more enjoyable, cheaper and only a short taxi ride from the main park I would actually recommend visiting this one instead if you only have time for one.

It contains more natural beauty than the Yunnan Stone Forest, though I like both of them. The rock types are of wider variety and shapes. There are less tourists compared to the Yunnan Stone Forest. I like the rocks there, at least they are not crafted or damaged with words. There are purple flowers planted intentionally in some area, and a flower arch too. That part looks like a garden instead.

It is a beautiful site. It has good trails and good sign posted. Only about 10 people were in the park during our 2 hour visit.

I paid 30¥ for a taxi from the Stone Forest- it is about 7 kilometers. The park entry is 60¥ and I walked around for 3 hours trying to see everything. Very beautiful park. I had not set up a return ride so I walked about 1 kilometer to the main road and a car stopped to pick me up. I didn't ask the price and when I got out I just gave 20¥.

Our guide took us to the Naigu Stone Forest, which he explained was much less crowded than the "other" Stone Forest. Ineed, we were among only 3 or 4 people there.

The rocks are dolomitic limestone, unlike the Stone Forest, and, if you look, you can see fossils in some of them, even in the pavers along the walkway.

The entry to the site (I don't know what else to call it) says it's handicapped accessible, but the ramp for wheelchairs only goes up to the first set of stairs. There are informational plaques along the route: birds found throughout the site; a history of the site in Chinese literature; geologic information, etc.

There was a maze consisting of windchime flowers that was absolutely beautiful.

Of course, so were the rock formations! We spent about 1.5 hours walking (easy walk) through the "forest", then retraced our steps to the entrance. All in all, a do not miss experience.

I asked specifically whether I could visit this place at the Kunming East Coach station - the staff member looked at me like I was stupid and said "of course" in Chinese, and so I bought a ticket, spent two hours travelling there to be told by the reception staff that in fact, it was "undergoing development" This was not mentioned on any site and surely the staff at the coach who ONLY tickets travelling to the stone forests would have this knowledge.
The staff then proceeding to talk about me in Chinese, calling me a stupid foreigner etc.

Very rubbish day!

Not like the popular Stone Forest Park, which is always full of loud tourists, the Naigu Stone Forest is quiet and marvelous. The view around the lake is wonderful photographic spot. Walking inside the giant park is a time-travel experience.

Different shaped rocks stood out sharply in the UNESCO site and you could use your imagination to figure out what the rocks appeared to be and it would be rather interesting.
