The self-guided historical tour of Maitland Gaol is very interesting, allow about 1 1/2 hours to complete. It is quite a sobering experience to enter the cells, which have been left in much the same condition as when they were inhabited by inmates. The architecture...More

Very impressed with the kids matinee movies run at the gaol. They provide bean bags, nibblies are about $3, it's warm and great kids movies. In our case, Ice Age. Will be back!

History comes alive when you can be transported to the place and times it happened. The stories of convicts, their crimes, their treatment (sometime cruel and unusual), their escapes and executions, and ultimately the end of an era provide a riveting tale!

I first visited Maitland Gaol within a few months of its decommissioning and opening to the public. At the time I felt as if the residents had just stepped out for a couple of hours, leaving me free to wander around in their absence. There...More

Hi Jo, the self guided audio tour is $22 for adults ($16 for concession/children) and runs 10am-3pm. There are other guided tours available for a slightly higher price i.e. $28 Cheers, Marc
