This is an amazing place! I recommend getting there with a long walk from Calamoresca so that you can see one of the most beautiful places of Tuscany! Bring your lunch and enjoy the day and the sea!

What to do on a Tuscan Christmas day? I was led to this beautiful spot by Michel from the Castanea cooperative. A magical mystery tour of trust, and delight. Having expressed an interest in the coast, a swimming opportunity and some walking he concocted this treasure. Christmas day, a picnic, a swim, a walk and enough sunshine to bring smiles to the faces of all the group. Thankyou so much Michel. I cannot recommend this highly enough. I will certainly plan a return through other seasons.

Buca delle fate is a small gulf between Golfo di Baratti and Piombino.
Access is not simple: need to drive to the end of the Baratti gulf and then follow the street in the direction of the castle.
You need to drive on top of the hill and looking for a place to park (not simple). Then you have to follow a narrow path to the sea (around 20 minutes walking in the mediterrian bush).
When you reach the place you will find crystal water and wild nature. The only problem is that the beach is quite small and done of stones.
Butt water is really wonderfull and for sure you will enjoy this small corner of paradise.
Maybe better to avoid the weekend and the central part of August: too crowded with problem for parking and find a place on the beach

You need to know it does exist, but is not an incredibly hidden gem if you go there during the summer. On the other hand, if you go there off season, especially in September or October, you might end up having very little company and enjoy this secluded place to take a bath in crystal clear waters. The hike is not very well marked and it can get dark in the woods if you wait too long to leave. Take your time and relax.
