This was amazing! We were worried when we first pulled up (parking lot is around the corner) and saw only seagulls. As we got closer, we realized there were a bunch of puffins! We were there mid morning. Bring binoculars, especially if they are on the cliff away from the one you're standing on. There was a knowledgeable and kind gentleman at the entrance building. A donation bin is there as well. The puffins are so cute and funny! Also, there are a few root cellars at the site and parking lot. Would also recommend the puffin souvenir shop, a two minute drive from the site. Family owned and crested and so friendly! Purchased close up, professional photos (cash only) for a fair price.

This is everything I was hoping for. The puffins really do come over to 'our' side in the evenings and you can get to within 3-4' of them. They are so cute and smaller than you think. They fly really fast all around. There is a donation box and it is well worth it to drop a few bucks in there to keep this place for all to enjoy!

Simply amazing. But go early in the morning before all the tourists show up and scare them all away. We were able to observe a couple making their nest in the ground. Hard to find but once you find it, it is well worth it.

Made a day trip out just to see puffins and was not disappointed. It's a short walk from the road to the puffin viewing area (maybe 10 minutes) but it's an easy path.
Puffins are very close - watch closely and you can also see them diving in the clear water.

One downside was there wasn't enough signage and we went to the wrong spot first and were disappointed. Luckily we asked a local shop why there weren't any puffins, and the staff gave us directions to the proper location.

Had dinner in Elliston and drove here to see whales and puffins. We were not disappointed. Got a great video of a whale off shore jumping out of the water numerous times. Walked out to the puffin colony. Two flew in and landed on the cliff near us as if posing, making for great photos.

So many puffins in a beautiful area. Comment were made regarding the "scary"part of the trail. It's totally comfortable - we are in our seventies.

We did a jaunt up to Elliston ( pop 380) to see their Puffin viewing site, they said you get close but I was expecting close as in a football field away but they meant close as in 5 feet away from these cute little birds. It was freaking awesome as a birder or non birder.

We were so lucky as there were lots of puffins on the rock island and also a number who came over to the mainland to check out the visitors.

Puffins everywhere. Tons on a giant rock, they fly over to the cliffs near where we walked. Incredibly cute and weird creatures. Could spend hours looking at them.

On the way to Elliston point you can view a view root cellars, a neat relic of pre refrigerated days

And if you want to get up close and personal with puffins… This is the place to do it. Map to the Maberly community and you will find the location just Elliston passed some houses with a nondescript sign but what you will see is an island with people and tons of birds flying around off to the right. Only about 15 mins from Cape Bonavista. There is only one road in and one road out. Bring cash to leave a voluntary donation as the site is maintained by local community. Take the path to the cliffs, approach and sit quietly and they will fly up to you. Not sure how keen I would be to bring little kids here given the cliffs. Be prepared with your camera to spend time here - they will charm you! Lots of local souvenirs shops in Elliston - support local!
