Amazing site and well worth visiting. The main tomb of Emperor Gaozong and Empress Wu remains intact so you can't explore the interior of this but you are free to climb to the summit of the pyramid shaped tomb. You can however enter 3 of the satellite tombs of which there are 17, all subterranean, containing well preserved wall paintings,... More

The only female Emperor of China, Wu Zetian (625-705 AD) is buried next to one her husbands, Emperor Gaozong, who she succeeded.
